- The infrastructure here is not how you would expect in private colleges like Amity, or new NITs and IIITs. But considering it being established in 1857, IIEST is well maintained.
Course Curriculum Overview :
IIEST is a 167 year old college and Civil Engineering was the first course introduced in here. I can say without doubt, the curriculum devised here is the best. All the faculties are experienced. The college provides internship opportunities and research internships at IITs and NITs under the core subject. Many core companies come here to hire Civil Engineers. If you want to sit for Govt exams like UPSC CSE, Central Civil Services, GATE,.and State Civil Services, the curriculum will help you crack these. Many students from our college have secured amazing ranks in these exams. But I would recommend a very small enhancement in the curriculum, which would be project based learning on a larger scale. Other, curriculum is designed very well.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship opportunities are provided by college after 4th semester. You can sit for tech interviews, or can opt for research internships at IITs. Stipend varies from company to company. Some companies that provide internships are Google, Tata Steel and many more.
Placement Experience :
Placements in my college are good. Students are eligible for placements from the end of 6th semester. From 5th semester onwards, companies come for providing internships. Although not many core companies come to hire Civil Engineers, many students from Civil Engineering goes for tech placements after working on their skills. In Civil Engineering, there is 64% placement, which might seem less, but many students opt for Govt Service and higher studies, so they don't go for placements. This college provides M.Tech opportunities which you can directly opt after completing 4 years of Bachelor's and you will get a degree of B.Tech and M.Tech within 5 years. Highest package in Civil Engineering was 13.6LPA last year and median package was 9 LPA. Core companies like Tata Steel, ITD Cementation, and non-core companies like TCS, PWC, ITC, Wipro, ICICI Bank hire Civil Engineers.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Tuition fees is Rs. 68,000 per semester. But there are few fee waiver options. 1. 100% Tuition Fee waiver for SC/ST/PH students. Full remission of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum. 2. Remission of 2/3rd of the Tuition Fee for General and OBC students whose family income is between Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum. Other than that, there are various scholarships: 1. GAABESU Scholarship(Alumni Scholarship) 2. DAAD Scholarship(Fund for Foreign Research Internships)
Campus Life :
Each department conducts their departmental fest. Some of them are Initium (Mining Engineering), Metallica (Metallurgy), Udbhabani (Civil Engineering), Impetus (Mechanical Engineering), Sphuran (Electrical Engineering), Vaidyutak (Electronics and Telecommunication) and Relevation (Computer Science). All of these take place in the even semester with lots of contests, events and fun. Lastly, the annual fest of IIEST- Rebeca is the best of all, with extreme enthusiasm. It the second largest and oldest cultural fest of the country, and something you can never miss. Lots of books are available in the library. Classes have projectors, and proper facilities. There are lots of clubs to explore your interests, be it coding, dancing, acting or literature. Some clubs have their own fests. There are athletic meets. You will be able to enjoy and utilise your college life to the fullest.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel fees is 29900 per semester. Hostels are alloted according to distance between your residence and college. Rooms are shared by four. Rooms are provided with beds, tables and cupboards. Bathroom and Washrooms are separate. Food is moderate. If you don't get a hostel, you can opt for a PG. There are lots of PGs available outside college.
Admission :
To take admission in this college, you need to sit for JEE(Mains). Application form can be found in the official website of Joint Entrance Exam, which usually has 2 attempts(January- February and April). Application fee is 800 for females and 1000 for males. Application starts from November/ December. You need to sit for JOSAA and CSAB counselling, and CSAB-NEUT(for North East States) to get into this college. You can avail reservations under caste, gender, EWS and PWD category. Cutoff for Civil Engineering goes upto rank 63000(general), 1.1 lakh(EWS), 1.3lakh(obc), 1.7lakh(sc) and 3.2lakh(st) by the last round of CSAB. For more details you can check the official JOSAA and CSAB website. Cut-off might increase this year due to increased competition.
Faculty :
Faculty-to-student ratio in first year was 1:90. Sometimes faculties would bring in assistants, which made the ratio 3:90. There were two or more faculties for each subject in a class of 90 students. The faculties are all PhD holders. They are knowledgeable in their subjects. They will help you out and will not turn you down if you need extra help. They teach you in a very simple way, and if you follow your course properly, you wouldn't have a problem grasping it. From my personal experience, I had some trouble in Chemistry. I went to my prof's office where he was busy with some other work. But he immediately helped me out without hesitation. So profs here are quite friendly and approachable.
