  • There are some minor things which can be improved. The organisation and management of different activities of the college can be done in a better way. In terms of placements, there should be more opportunities for the students.
  • Also the college should provide better internship programs for it's students .

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum of our course of BA Hons(political science) is very versatile and has great scope.Especially for students who aim for competitive exams after graduation, this is a great course as it prepares you for future. A major part of the syllabus overlaps with the syllabus of a lot of competitive examinations. Even students who want to opt for research in their higher studies will benefit from this course. Regarding the improvement aspect, the department can organise more seminars and lectures from outside colleges and universities to enhance the scope of the subject. Also, it will provide necessary exposure to the students. We have semester wise exams with six semesters in totality. There are two phases of exams. One is the internal assessment and tutorial conducted by college and then the university exams. The exams are more on the difficult side testing the clarity of concepts among the students. Students can score good with regular attendance of classes and thorough revision.

Internships Opportunities :

The college offers different internships to it's students during the course. Summer interns are offered every year and interested students can apply. Some companies which participated in the internships last few years are Praxis , Techno India, George Telegraph, Bajaj Finserv ,etc. The duration of internships is mostly 2weeks to 6 weeks. The various programs under the internship include introduction to employability skills, communication and collaboration, reliability and effectiveness, critical thinking and problem solving, data fluency and information management. All in all the college provides ample opportunities to it's students for internships. They may be both paid and unpaid internships.

Placement Experience :

The students of the 6th semester are eligible for campus placements. The placement cell started in 2004 and it has successfully provided placement to a large section of graduates over the years. Initially the companies are invited to take part in campus recruitment drive . Thereafter the interested students register with the placement cell and participate in the campus drive. Some of the major companies which visited in the session 2023-24 are TCS , Amazon, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd, British Telecom, Genpact, Crizac Pvt Ltd, Glenmark Life sciences Ltd, etc. In total 150 students sat for placements and more than 60% got placed. The highest package offered was 3 lakhs pa and the average package was 2 lakhs pa. A lot of students who opt for higher studies and research prefer not sitting for placements. I did not appear for placements as I have applied for further studies in Masters in other colleges.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college being a semi- government institution offers quality education at a very affordable fees to it's students. The tution fees for our course is 11,000 per year and 33,000 for the whole course. The fees may vary for science and commerce stream students. The college also provides hostel facility to it's outstation students. We have currently 2 boys and 1 girls hostel. The fees for hostel is 50-55k per year. The students can also available different govt. scholarships provided by the college . These include the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme, Kanyashree Scholarship, etc. There is also facility of Free Studentship for economically weaker students through scholarship. There is a placement cell in our college which provides placement to the final year students.Various companies like Amazon, Google, Flipkart, Govt banks, Private organisations come to our college for placements. The average placement package ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 lakh p.a.

Campus Life :

The campus life of our college is pretty good . The crowd is friendly and easy to interact with. A lot of North -east population can be found here. We can find people from different cultures. The college library is very old and home to thousands of books and research material. It's easily accessible by the students. Each department even has it's own departmental library. There are a significant number of activity clubs including the Literary society, Debating Society, Drama Club, Music Club, Dance Club, Photography Club, Painting Club, Sports Club. Our College hosts Activity day every year for students to showcase their skills and talents. Also, all the clubs organise different activities within the college as well as outside the college to provide more opportunities to it's members. There are regular inte- college feats and competitions where students can participate and get exposure. We also have tech- friendly classrooms with smart board for better education.

Hostel Facilities :

The college provides Hostel facility to it's outstation students. We have 2 boys hostel and one girls hostel currently. The admission process is online through application form which comes on college website during the time of admission.I have been living in the girls hostel for 2.5 years now. I had a great experiene. The annual fee for the hostel is between 50k -55k. The hostels have double and triple seater rooms for the students. We are provided with a shelf, a study table-chair and a bed. The girls hostel has lift facilities also. We have common washrooms on every floor as well as water purifiers. There is a common mess on the ground floor and we are provided with two meals in a day. The food is hygienic and the quality is good. We also have a common room to study and other activities. We organise various cultural events in the hostel throughout the year. Ragging is absolutely prohibited in the college and hostels.

Admission :

The eligibility of the course is to have passed your 12th standard from a recognised board with an aggregate of 55% marks. The admission is direct and strictly based on merit. The college has a well-functioning website. Applications start every year around May-June.The whole admission process from application to payment of fees is strictly online. I come from general category so I did not available any reservation benefits. However, reserved categories and Christian students can get reservation benefits by submitting necessary documents.

Faculty :

We have 4-5 professors in each department with one taking the role as HOD. The faculty is highly experienced with great professional background. The approach to teaching is followed in a bottom -up manner by building the concepts and gradually increasing the level of teaching. The professors are always ready to provide personal mentorship whenever required. All the professors are very approachable even outside class hours. The camaraderie between the professors and students is great. The guidance given by the professors throughout the graduation and even for higher studies is of crucial importance.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Overall my course is good and suitable for me but one thing that i didn't like is exam timing. Exam timing is too short . Students have to write a 14 page of a answer sheet within 1 hour. This is almost impossible. College should change this rule and should extend the exam timing.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I completed my graduation in English Literature and this course taught me to present my point of view, create my imagination about everything around me and write it down, beautify those thoughts and be vocal about those. Now come to the syllabus structure, The University of Calcutta syllabus is well-designed. I am completely satisfy with the syllabus pattern and even I am doing my Master's degree from University of Calcutta.
