SSN - The place where you can turn your dreams to reality

Dislikes

  • They said they provide free wifi throughout the campus but the bandwidth is very low
  • No free classes. Except holidays on saturdays and sundays the full week is packed up

Course Curriculum Overview :

As far as mechanical engineering is concerned, a new course named FUNDAMENTALS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING was introduced in 2021 in the curriculum of 2nd semester which provides an introduction to the course and also allows to learn mechanisms by the method of dismantling the machine and learning everything part by part. This particular was prepared by yhe faculty members of the Mechanical Department and this course is only available in SSN.

Internships Opportunities :

There are a lot of research scholars working under different projects and students also work below them and publish papers on articles. In the past annual year 48 patents were approved and 12 are from the mechanical department alone. Considering internships, students were offered internships from top colleges and companies including IIT Madras

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester. Many companies come for placement including google, Microsoft, dove chemicals, Caterpillar and many more. Many people get placed in IT field when compared to core companies. The highest package was in the CSE department which was 117 lakhs per annum and the average package is around 25 lakhs per annum. Around 30 - 40% students opt for higher studies and almost all the students sitting for placements get placed in a good company with an average income of 10 lakhs per annum. After getting the degree I plan to pursue MS in Germany.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There are many scholarships for rural students. There is a scholarship called 7.5 quota and they provide free education for all the 4 years including hostel and exam fees. Also, there is a special scholarship for rural students. From the 2nd semester if the students come in the top three of their respective departments, they are given scholarships.

Campus Life :

The annual cultural fest is INSTINCTS which is usually held in the month of March and more than 150 colleges participate in this fest. Adding on to this, there are a lot of clubs at SSN. NSS, YRC, Saaral Thamizh Mandram, Lakshya to name a few. A lot of flagship events are held by each of the clubs throughout the year. For example, Sycon is one of the flagship event hosted by Lakshya, the entrepreneurship club of SSN. Also they are many books in the library and they are of good use and provide a lot of valuable information. The classrooms are well equipped with projectors and laptops. There is a sports complex in the campus and it has all provisions for sport activities. Annual sports meet is held usually in the even semesters wherein the students from each year form a team and take part in activities

Admission :

There are two ways by which you can apply and avail a seat at The SSN College of Engineering. One, is through Anna University Counselling. If you want to pursue CSE or IT, the respective cut odd should be more than 198. For ECE or EEE more than 195. For other core Engineering courses 190+. Second is through the management quota. But fee is higher when compared to counseling fee. First you have to apply with your cutoff. If the cutoff is more than 180, you will be called to take up the management exam which takes place in 2 stages. First you have to take up an aptitude test which has 25 questions and 4 marks each which adds up to 100. Second, you will have to give an interview wherein you language and communication skills will be evaluated .

Faculty :

The faculty members not only focus on teaching but also provide insights and motivate the students continuously to do projects and paper publications. The management welcomes students' ideas and assign a faculty member to guide them and they also provide funds for doing the project. The faculty members are very friendly and approachable on the whole.

Other Applied Colleges

Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)

I didn't opt for VIT because I believe that though there is academic and extra curricular balance there is so much population and competition

If u study for ur internal exams or mid some people call as if u get well prepared in that then it is easy to clear sem exams because if college is not an autonomous paper is not easy as expected so u have to study and understand the whole concept u will be having our staff support more.
