A Very Detailed Review - Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, Amritapuri

Dislikes

  • The Campus is not too big, the location of it being in a town/village makes it difficult if we want something and we have to travel some good distance for nearby cities, Infrastructure can be better for some classrooms, and buildings.
  • The hostel is decent along with the mess, but can be way better, the mess food is ok but not exceptional, the night dinner mess is not that good. There is no Canteen after curfew at 8:45, which makes it difficult sometimes at night.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The Course is designed very well, its taught and the exam is set on the blooms taxonomy level. The course is explained at the start of the semester, the course outcomes and goals are very well set. The exams will have 30-40% of the questions on applying concepts and creating ( L4 and L5 ). The colege can improve more on helping students on the creating aspect of learning ( L5 ). There are 2 main exams - the midsemester exam and the endsemester exam. The Mid Semester exam will be after 2 months of the start of the course and the End Semester exam will be after 1.5 - 1.75 months from Midsemester exam, also there will be class tests in between and before which add up to the final score. The difficulty level is Medium-High for all the exams.

Internships Opportunities :

There are many internship oppurtunities given in our college, this entire thing is handled by the CIR department, they made a group on whatsapp and will be sending regular oppurtunities for internship by companies who have openings, they will update regarding who got selected to the next round and stipend details in the group itself. The companies which offered internships were 'Cadence', 'Fidelity', 'Providence', 'TCS', 'Scalar' etc, many were posted in that group and mainly the hiring process was on Haveloc. Stipend given ranged between 20-25k. Apart from this there are labs in our college like 'HUTT LABS' which provide internship for us who are interested, and even oppurtunities to go abroad for a project, but it would be an unpaid internship, but it had a lot of value for experience. I did my internship from outside on App developement, the reason was because i got an offer before the process in our college started, so i took it and did my internship.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible for placements at the end of Semester 6 and the start of Semester 7, for eligibility to sit in the campus placement, the student has to have above 6.5 CGPA and no standing arrears. Many companies visited the college like Microsoft, cadence, wipro , cisco, TCS, infosys, Techotip, Vivriti capital,Arista etc. the highest package offered was 40 - 50 lpa, and the average package is around 7-8 lpa. Around 80-85% of the students get placed, while some dont but many chose to go for higher studies. My plan is to get a job in placement and continue it after getting my degree and think of masters depending on situations

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college has 4 fee slabs, 1st slab being the lowest and the 4th slab being the highest, your fee slab will be based on the rank you get for admission either through their AEEE exam or JEE main exam. To maintain the slab we have to score above 8 SGPA every semester, otherwise the slab will be decreased to the next one, and once your slab is reduced you cant go back to slab 1 or 2 even with 10 SGPA. I am in slab 4 and my tuition fee per year is 225000 and hostel+mess fee is 66000, Other than the slabs there are no scholarships awarded by the college themselves. But for current admission of my juniors the fee is increased for slab 4, from 225000 to 300000. There are no Campus employement provided, so i havent taken up any jobs.

Campus Life :

We have one main annual technical festival called the 'VIDYUT' it is held for 3 days mostly in the month of may or june, or sometimes depending on situation. We will have many workshops, competitions, robo fights and many more events followed by a proshow by any famous singer/dancer in the evening. The classrooms each have a projector and a big whiteboard, and the benches are fixed with charging ports. The sports activities are not much in this college, there are college teams but not very active , it is not given much importance, other than that we have many student run technical and non technical clubs, Mainly 'FOSS' and 'BIOS' which guide the student members a lot in their projects

Hostel Facilities :

The hostels are decent, the registration will happen seamlessly along with normal admission itself where you have to choose for hostel or day scholar. Each room has a Wi-Fi Router, its a 4 sharing room but very spacious, 4 beds with storage underneath and 4 desks with attached cupboards are given, it has a balcony as well. The mess food is ok not very good, we get good breakfast - normally on days( idli or appam, upma, bread butter jam, pongal, pasta poha), for lunch its the same almost every day (south indian meal - rice, sambhar, dal, vegetable preparation, one curry, curd, papad, sometimes paisam), night mess is ( chapati, curry, color rice, raita) and the cost for Hostel + Mess for 1 Year is Rs 66000. The hostel is nearby the college, approximately 700-800 mtrs.

Admission :

The college accepts admission through many forms, i got in by writing their own exam called the 'AEEE', the syllabus for the exam is the same as JEE mains but isnt as hard as JEE mains, you dont need to prepare seperately, just solve some questions from previous year of AEEE with your preparation from JEE mains itself. Apart from this you can also get in by only your JEE mains rank as wel, if we apply through both the exams, the best out of the two will be taken for consideration of admission( based on course and campus we need). The admission process is called the CSAP, there was a telegram group for updates on the CSAP admission process to help students. The 'AEEE' exam in 2021 was conducted 3 times, in a span of 6 months, but now it is around 2 times. You can apply just by typing the 'Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam' and go to the college official webpage

Faculty :

In our corse there are 2 sections with around 50 students in each, the classrooms are spacious so seating is not a problem, and every student can be heard by the teacher, the learning experience is good, the teacher's are all highly qualified, majority of them have phd and doctorates on the particular domain with many research papers, so any doubt we have on the subject or any project we want to do on that domain we can approach the faculty and they will help us on the same. We can interact with the teachers in their free time at their cabin, or thorugh whatsapp and most of them are very approachable.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Actually the university curriculum is bit old fasion.Like the technology is a way head of the things that we are studying in the sessions. But the basis are well learned from it.The improvement we need in that is that to get out of the instituion as a proffesional that can handle the new technolgy that the real world work in.The curriculum is need to improve so much as per the technology improves the students want to know what all changes that are happening in the real world and they want to be trained according to that.

In the 7th and 8th semesters, the students become eligible for campus placements. Infosys, and Spyridian, are the companies that often come for placements .3 -4 lakhs is the highest package given by these companies. The percentage of students getting placement is about 50-70. My plan is to go for higher studies or to go for a job.

From the 3rd year onwards we could attend placement interviews and many companies used to approach our college but mostly IT companies as I was in civil dept the construction companies were very less or NIL. In our batch, most of the students got placed and many offer letters but the only disadvantage was the offers were not from the core companies.
