What Students Say
Likes
- The infrastructure is really cool, Not too modern, it's old-school fashioned, pretty classic. Filled with trees, the environment is nice.
- Lots of places to discover, you have canteen(hut cafe), REC cafe, Aero Cafe, Cafe coffee day, Hekka, stationary shop, and even a printer shop.
- Placements are a really big plus. The placements are solid, Most people atleast get any offer, even being pretty low.
Dislikes
- Food. The Food is mediocre. Hostel food is even worse (I've tried them in camps) Home made food must be preferred.
- Mandatory camps are a pain. They ask you to come to college in the summer, winter holidays. That's a waste of time(you don't learn anything good) and you have to stay in college, and eat the hostel food.
- The department heads usually have really bad attitude and treat the students pretty ill.
Course Curriculum Overview
* The computer science in general has been performing great, even in all these "company layoff" times. Also, I always wanted to work in IT industry, being a software developer, hence the course. * The curriculum not exactly prepares you for what is coming. Being honest, the curriculum is to make you a computer science student but not a programmer/developer. Thus you will have to improve skills on your own. * Curriculum doesn't need any improvement, it has solid foundations, and they even included some new "Up to date" courses. That's a plus. * Teaching methods are average. People will anyway end up in youtube lectures, irrespective of who teaches. * The exams can be prepared monthly, for the assessment tests, preparing for these tests would help you get good score in the final exams too. The tests are evenly spread(in time) and doesn't put a stress on the students.
Placement Experience
*The placements are really good in this college. Students are eligible for placements in their 3rd yead (usually 6th semester). * Students can only choose a single offer on three tier basis. Companies that offer package less than 5Lpa. So if you're placed in a company less than 5lpa, you can't appear/attend any more companies less than 5Lpa. Similarly, there are two more tiers. (Less than 5Lpa, 5 to 10 Lpa, 10Lpa and more). * Lots of companies from TCS, Infosys, Cognizant and such visit the campus regularly. They make offers ranging 3Lpa to around 20Lpa. (Only a very few will get the later higher packages) * The highest package in my batch was around 16Lpa. The average however I would say around 4.5Lpa. * Percentage of students getting placed, in my opinion is around 80%, while most of them get base salary. (i.e less than 5Lpa) * I got selected in a really good company for a good package, thus proceeding with it.
Fees and Financial Aid
* You don't get any fee hikes. (Whole fees for the whole course duration 4 years) is determined at the Application process. However, the next batch, i.e your juniors will pay more fees, ranging around 10-20,000 INR more, than you(the previous year) * The yearly pay is 1,80,000 INR, which translates to 7,20,000 INR for four years. The transport is free(they just included it for everyone). There are no other service fees. But there is an exam fee in every semester examination. It ranges around 3,000INR to 6000INR every semester based on number of courses you're about to write in the particular semester.
Campus Life
* We have rechargedfest (a fest) conducted here in REC annually, it's pretty famous here. It typically comes around the month of March. Then we have technical symposiums according to the departments. Also there are "Ethnic day" and such celebrations. * The library is free to use. You can also pick books from there and read it, and drop it back in library. The library is pretty good, clean, spacious. You can also use Laptop or such for project works. * You don't get many sport activities, unless you have talent and is selected into a group. * There are various clubs like photography club and such, and students can join them.
Admission
* The application process is simple, you can either apply through counselling(Anna uuniversity), or just apply through their website, rajalakshmi.org , or you can visit the campus, they'll tell you the procedures. * There are two different quotas, counselling(the fees is lesser, but requires a fairly high cut off), then the management(The fees is extreme) * Reservation benefits are availed by students. (I didn't avail any) * For the exams, we have 8 semesters of exams spread through 4 years. 2 semester per year. Each semester has many courses. Each course will have 5 units. A semester will go for 6 months. Where 5 months for 5 units (3 assessments) and the final exam at the last month. The first assessment usually comes in 2 months (with 2 units), second one in the next month with (1 unit) and the third assessment in two more months(2 units). i.e 5 months, 5 units. The exams are very easy and plenty of time to prepare. * The admission process is way too easy, so no problems there.
