My honest opinion of DTU in my 1st year

Dislikes

  • I'm in electrical engineering, and the main con of that is the syllabus gets a bit tough around 2nd year, and it gets a bit hectic from 2nd year but its not non manageable
  • I would like the canteen to have better and more food options. Right now its just basic street food.

Course Curriculum Overview :

My curriculum in electrical engineering consists of electrical circuits and a bit of electronics which made me consider electrical engineering. I feel the curriculum doesn't prepare you for real-world applications that much for now. I just want more technology based topics in my curriculum. The exams aren't held that often, just 4 times in an year and they aren't even too tough.

Internships Opportunities :

Honestly, I'm not too sure about the internships. There are many companies which come for internships but most of them prefer taking students from higher branches like cse, se, it. However that's not the case for placements, companies check the skill level instead of branch in placements unlike internships.

Placement Experience :

The placements are available from 3year 2nd semester, which is 6th semester. There are many amazing companies which visit for placements, including Google and Microsoft. The highest placement offered reaching 1Cr in some years. In 2023, it was 87lakhs. And the average is amazing too, in electrical its 15lakhs. The percentage of students getting placements is really high too. My plan after graduation is preparing for masters abroad while doing a job for the money requirements of masters abroad.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The tuition fees increase is 5% or 10% I think not too sure. The complete cost for 4yr will be something around 7lakhs. Campus does offer really good placements and internships. However don't expect to get great internship if you get lower branch, you can get great placements even if you have lower branch but that's not the case for internships.

Campus Life :

Oh the campus life is amazing. I don't have a hostel so I can't say about that but the overall campus life is a next level experience. The campus is really big with greenery all around. There are multiple fests held around the year. February has the best and most fests. The sports complex is really big too with almost every facility. And the club, there are clubs for literally any interest you have.

Admission :

The eligibility of the course was based on rank in JEE Mains. I had to have more than 75% in 12th too. The application form is in JAC Delhi, it is a round based selection program for government colleges. The exams aren't that tough, it's just JEE Mains. With JEE Mains, you can go for JOSAA or JAC, JAC gives you DTU, NSUT or IIITD. And JOSAA gives you NIT, IIIT and IIT. You don't have to give some other exam, just JEE. The areas of improvement I would want in the admission process is removal of reservation benefits.

Placement Experience:

At IIITD students become eligible for internships after 2nd year. First sem students also get a chance to get internship from UNIQLO. The company takes some students from first sem and offer them stipends and a trip to tokyo. The percentage of placements is good at IIITD but it went down during recession. The highest package offered is 55lpa domestic and 120lpa overseas and the avg package is 20-25 lpa. Approx 70% students got placed in year 2024

Placement Experience:

5th semester students are eligible for internships and 7th semester students are eligible for placements( full time offers) Many bigtech companies like Google, Microsoft, Uber, Salesforce, Intuit etc visit our campus and hiring rate is not that bad, depends upon the company's budget and students' calibre. Average package of our college varies between 13 lakhs to 19 lakhs and most of the companies come for software developer roles. Didn't planned yet

Remarks:

* the comparison of pros and cons are based on all the colleges under GGSIPU and not IIT, or NITPros:Transportation: college is well connected and within metro, bus routes, the choice is yours.Good campus: In GGSIPU campus of ADGITM is one of the best.Faculty: Faculty are good and always there for your helpCollege Societies: From sports to arts and culture to entrepreneurship college has societies, if you want to join and explore then society are one of the best place to explore as they are quite active.Infrastructure: the college has good infrastructure considering other college of GGSIPU.Cons:Placement for other branch than CS and IT are very rare if you want to work in core sectors. The education is based on to get marks in the end sem and not to learn and grow, which is the sad part.Investment in societies by college is negligible, student manages most of the events by themselves that is one of the reason most of the societies underperform than their calibre. If you are getting MAIT or GB pant go for that as the education is quite same but there you can get more placement opportunity in the core sector. and more space to grow.My time admission was based on GGSIPU CET but now it is based on JEE Main score as GGSIPU comes under JEE Main.

Admission:

Yes there was a written test and the admission is purely on the base of written test, and rank achieved in that written test. Written test is JEE main and it is based on physics, maths and chemistry of 12th standard.
