Hitchhikers guide to VIT Chennai

Dislikes

  • Some pointless rules such as no kettles, electric items in hostel
  • Behavior of some staff towards students (Not always but a few times)

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum includes concepts from both electronics and computers. Since I did not want to go purely into CSE or EEE, I thought this course will be perfect for me. As mentioned the curriculum teaches students both fields' knowledge and hence can work in both type of fields and have an expertise on both. The teaching methods vary by professor and can be improved by forcing everyone to use more visual based teaching. There are 2 internals and 1 Semester exams. Internals are written for 50 mks and is reduced to 15 mks and Semester exam is written for 100mks and is reduced to 40 mks. The rest of the 30 mks come from Digital Assignments/Quizzes. I feel like there could be an additional optional improvement internals to improve the overall grade in each course.

Internships Opportunities :

I still have no idea about the internship oppertunities since i'm a freshman, but i have heard that students can apply in companies on their own. There are a few times where students' skills have impressed the company members who came for an event and have been offer oppertunities.

Placement Experience :

Since this is my first year of study, I have very little details regarding placements, but there are a fair of companies which have come in the previous years and the package is dependent on the student's skills.

Fees and Financial Aid :

The tution fees depend on the ranking in the entrance exam and popularity of the course. There are 5 categories and C1 fees is around 1.5l and C5 fees is 5l. Based on the ranking you will be able to select the course in the category available.

Campus Life :

Though this college is located in Chennai, there are lots of Hindi Speaking students students and many of them are very friendly. There is one Annual fest (Vibrance) usually held in the end of Feb or beginning or March and one Technical fest (TechnoVIT) in the month of October. Along with this there are many clubs which conduce many events throughout the year. Each club will also recruit students in the beginning of the year through interview and it is upto the students to apply to various clubs. There are provisions for playing sports such as Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, etc.

Hostel Facilities :

There is options to select AC or Non AC rooms and fees vary depending on the number of students in a room. Quality of hostel is good and rooms are sweeped everyday and mopped on request. Fans are cleaned on request and bathrooms are cleaned twice a day. Mess food is average and there are 2 different caterers and we can choose between them each month.

Admission :

Entrance exam - VITEEE Application form - provided on the website, appliccation fees - approx Rs.1000 The exam occurs once yearly for a week and we can select the date, time and venue Area of Improvements - collabration with JEE mains score, number of locations

this is where they lie the most , they claim to have placement records of 97% but in reality its just 10%. because of huge student crowd , placing everyone is one big task. the company that comes here for hiring are mostly startups and some lesser known company . branches like mechanical and EEE have it even more difficult time to get placement.the highest package of over college is of 16 lakhs .
