Course Curriculum Overview :
As I am enrolled in mechanical engineering, it was not my priority in the first place . But somehow, I landed here . Being in second year now , I realise that the course curriculum is really well structured. The subjects in each semester are somehow related( not all ) and arranged in ascending order of their difficulty level. The proffesors of my course are keenly determined and passionate about their subjects and their respective area of interests. Ofcourse some teachers are not bothered whether you are studying or not , or coming late to the class. While most of them are strict and want disciplined students, to be on time , complete assignments before due date, and maintaining 75% attendance is must in each and every subject. We have mid semester and end semester exams . The level of difficulty entirely depends on the course and the proffesor. Open book exams are always the toughest .
Placement Experience :
Students are eligible for placements in the beginning of 7th semester. The on campus placements begins in the break after 7th semester ( starts from December) . From recent placement stats , there are about 1000 offers from about 300 different companies including some very prestigious ones like Goldman Sachs , Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, Oracle , De Shaw , Sprinklr , Bajaj and many more. There were about 12 international offers . Highest domestic package was 1.68 cr . CTC package domestically started from 7 lpa , while average international package was around 45 to 77 lpa. Almost 85 percent of the batch got placed. My plans after this degree is non core sector, that is I will try for tech companies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Being a government college the hostel fees is quite minimal, around 3300 rs. Also there are lots of scholarships available for first year undergraduate students . The college itself provides all the information through the mail. Sometimes the scholarships can be provided by some alumni of the college, you just have to fill the application form and you will be selected based on different criterias. Also there is relaxation in the fees if ur parents income is below 5 lakhs ( Trust me , its affordable) . If its below 1 lakhs , then your college fees is kinda negligible. However the mess fee is constant and same for all, in every semester which is around 15k ( varies according to the college) . Moreover there are also cash prizes when you take part in certain competitions like in the Techfest or any other college events( not all) .
Campus Life :
Clubs and councils are a major part of college life . There are about 53 clubs in our college including almost everything from sports to music, arts, dance, cinema ,drama , business, entrepreneurship and many more. All of them are manages by students only. There are 3 major fests , Kashiyatra- cultural fest held in January, Technex - techfest ( March) ans Spardha - sports fest ( October) . These major fests witness participation from thousands of students from all across the country, each fest occur for 3 days . While several other fests organised by several other clubs occur throughout the year. In short there is so much to engage with. Sports include almost everything which you have heard of including less popular ones like squash, swimming and taekwondo. We also have social services clubs . These clubs benefit for the overall personality development, strengthening the network which is way too essential in the college life.
Hostel Facilities :
It is mandatory in the IITs to stay in the hostels , even if your house is near to the campus. According to me , the accomodation in hostels in the first year is not good as we have to live in triple sharing in a room of two. Life get easy if you get good roommates. Some new boys hostel have been made , but girls hostels are not according to the no of admissions they are getting. On the contrary the mess food is quite good. You can face problems if you are from south or west india . It is difficult to settle in the hostels for the first time but eventually you get used to it. The registration process is also satisfactory but can take a lot of time in the beginning, as there is a single day for hostel allotment for the first time. Things are different from second year onwards, you are used to everything and doesn't takes much time. Our hostel mess menu includes non veg thrice a week and rest of the days , different vegetables alongwith sweets in the dessert.
Admission :
Admission in the IITs is a well known process . The exam is JEE Mains followed by JEE ADVANCED. Students can appear along with their 12 th class and also after a drop year. The application form and related details are available on official NTA website, every year , around January. There are two attempts for mains. Reservation plays a key role as the fee of application form is less for reserved categories. Also the college fees is structured according to categories as well as parents annual income. This is available both in IITs and NITs. After clearing JEE ADVANCED, the JOSAA counseling is the gateway . Students have to fill their priorities and they will be allotted a college based on their rank in the exam. After you freeze your seat in the counseling, you will get a mail from your chosen selected institute and the admission process is smooth thereafter.
