Remarks

Social life is good here. We got to learn a lot but poor placements are an issue of great concern. Faculties are very helpful and guide us through difficult situations. But there is a lot of discrimination between male and female. I don't know why it is so but facilities for male students are much better than us. All together I have a great time in the college, something similar to that I wished for.

Entrance Preview

I got admission in my college based on the 12th class results. There is a Merit based online allotment system in place in the university to which the students can apply for a number of courses of their choice. There is no separate entrance exam for any of the undergraduate courses. I am pursuing a degree in English Language and Literature. I chose the course I am passionate about the language and wish to improve my reading in English as well as I wanted to stay in my state as well so I landed up in this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course I chose was really up to the mark in its syllabus. It included all the areas expected to be covered by a graduate course in English Language. By the fifth semester, we focus on the core topics and are introduced into practical criticism of Literature and are expected to submit a detailed criticism of an entire work of any author of our own choice. The Department of English in our College is also supporting several research scholars since 2014.

Internships Opportunities

The college offered no internships for its students. Its all dependent upon the student to find internship if he/she wish to do any. For Literature students, we usually preferred working under renowned writer as his assistant or in any newspaper firm. I worked for a Times of India newspaper for 2 months. I used to write articles for them.

Placement Experience

2

Placement is not at all good here. Not heard of any Literature student getting placed from the campus. Placements for the other students are good. Most of my senior friends in commerce branch got placed in this year. But for us, options that are available are as an independent writer or get a job in Newspaper firm or few other options.

College Events

4

Every Department conducted yearly fests. The Commerce and Literature fests were the biggest, the others being mostly science fairs. Students from almost 30 colleges participated every year in each of these. Average footfall being 2000 above.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Having secured seat on a Merit- basis, there was only a semester fee of around 500 rupees, a donation of 2000 rupees to the department fund, and the examination fees of 350 rupees in the first semester. In the subsequent semesters, only the semester fees and the department fees had to be paid. The was an almost constant increase in the fees in each semester, which accounted to 2000 rupees in the fifth semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships were offered to economically backward students or on a community basis. I was unable to avail any.

Campus Life

4.5

We have an annual arts fest that lasts 3 days. The winners will go on to compete at the university level. There are also the College Union Day and other programs such as flash mobs in every academic year. Programs are also frequently organized by the various clubs in college. The college excels in football in state level, having contributed several players to the state football team.

Hostel Facilities

3

The College provides a hostel for girls inside the campus and a hostel for the boys who joined under sports-quota just outside the campus. A maximum of three students were accommodated in the hostel rooms. There are several hostels and PGs available around the college. Food in the hostel is good and healthy, though they do not offer a great variety to choose from. The fees specifics are not known as I am a day-scholar.

Alumni/Alumna

No, there was only the student to student interaction, exempting occasional visits of celebrity alumni for inaugurations or such functions in college.

Exam Structure

The examination schedules are neither so tiring nor so lax. It sufficiently allows time for learning the subjects properly and for other academic activities.

Faculty

4

The faculty are all either M.Phil. or PhD holders and well qualified. The Department of English is generally known for its liberal attitude towards teacher- student interactions. I find the atmosphere extremely suitable for learning. There are a 5 lectures in every working day each an hour-long. The students can approach the teachers anytime for clarifications on various topics.

Majority of the teachers who are posted there are those who have qualified with NET (NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST). The current HOD is one of the retired Assistant Professor from one of the renowned college around Kozhikode town. Internal exam were timely, but coming to University exams it was so restless. But as if now, it is getting into the track again by conducting exams on time.
