My experience in ssn

Dislikes

  • The college is in the outskirts of chennai and it takes around 2 hours to reach the main city of chennai.
  • Compulsory bus fees for day scholars increases the cost of living in PG

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choose mechanical engineering because I am interested in the field of manufacturing and innovation. For every semester we have to complete 6 courses for which 6 faculty will be assigned. Every class has around 60 students and 2 class per year in every department. No more than 120 students will be admitted. Most of the staffs here have completed phd in their respective fields, some are pursuing them right now. The staffs are well knowledged. They follow the classic teachings methodology where they teach the subjects in class and we have to prepare for the internal and semester exams based on the teaching in class, books from library and ppts provided by staffs online. As I started during the end of covid my course started prety late and to compensate for it lot of the holidays have been removed so far till we catch up with the usual academic time table. Before exams a minimum of a week is given as study leave for self preparation and the exam toughness is moderate.

Internships Opportunities :

Students are allowed to attend internships for 5 semesters. Students had opportunities to intern at top companies like Amazon, IBM, etc., Some of them got placement offers from the companies that they interned. Many students start their final year project after 3rd year and do well in their club activities.

Placement Experience :

From the 6th semester, students are eligible for company placements. The placement for computer science and IT courses is very good. For the mechanical department, it is pretty average and you can expect an average salary of 6 lakh per annum and the highest of 12 lakh per annum in core companies and the highest of 18 lakh per annum in IT or management companies. Most of the students in mechanical opt for higher studies but 90% placement is provided for all the students. I plan to go for MBA after graduation.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is such that it costs around 2.4 - 2.6 lakhs for academics and 70k for a hostel. If you don't want to opt for a hostel you should compulsorily come to college by means of a college bus for which you have to pay around 70k. There are a lot of opportunities to get scholarships. In the case of rural government school students, you will be given a 100% scholarship. For the academic rank holders, every year scholarship is provided. There are many other government scholarships that can be claimed. There are no campus jobs for students. You will be provided with education loan assistance.

Campus Life :

The annual tech fest conducted in SSN is Invented which is conducted on Dec/Jan of every year. All kinds of books are available in the library which can be accessed by every student. The library facilities are pretty good, they provide air-conditioned rooms for studying and each student can take up to 5 books which they should renew every 15 days. Sports clubs are free for everyone, everyone can participate in whatever sports they are interested in. There are also clubs for dance, music, model united nation, go-karting, coding, English/Tamil literature, etc., The classrooms are clean and wifi facility is provided for students everywhere inside the campus. The computer labs are air-conditioned. Every classroom is fitted with a projector for faculty to do presentations.

Hostel Facilities :

Three students share a single room in the basic hostel room. Lighting, fan, cupboards, power service, ethernet, bed and chair for each one of the students. There is a shared common washroom for every student. The mess meal has a routine menu where most mornings are idli, dosa, Pongal and puri whereas the lunch mostly consists of rice and sambar or curry, the dinner is dosa, chappati, biriyani, etc., We are also provided with chicken 3 times a week and egg twice a week. The basic hostel costs around 70k whereas a room with ac and a separate bathroom costs around 1.7 lakhs. During the document verification visit you should book your hostel rooms. There are many other options such as PG or a rented room within 3 km but the compulsory bus fees make it an unviable option.

Admission :

For the engineering stream, you should have chosen PCM in your high school. The online application portal opens around the month of April/May. You should fill out the form online and you will be given a date for the Enterance exam. If cleared the entrance exam you will be called for an online/offline interview. Within a month admission letter will be sent to students who passed the personal interview. You will be called offline for document verification after a few days. You should apply for a hostel if needed.

Interview Experience :

For admission, a written exam is considered as the first round of selection and then a personal interview is conducted for those who cleared the exams. The test portion was based on the PCM of classes 11 and 12. The interview questions are generic.

Other Applied Colleges

Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)

In terms of placement both provide similar opportunities but ssn is known for their freedom and discipline

Course Curriculum Overview:

If u study for ur internal exams or mid some people call as if u get well prepared in that then it is easy to clear sem exams because if college is not an autonomous paper is not easy as expected so u have to study and understand the whole concept u will be having our staff support more.
