Life in SVCE

Remarks :

I got admission to SVCE via TNEA. My marks secured in 12th were taken into consideration for the selection process. One must have completed the 10+2 or a relevant degree to be eligible for admission. Since I got admission via the government quota, the application forms were available on the official TNEA website. It is advised to apply in their website as soon as possible because the process tends to be cumbersome. I would like the whole process to be quicker and more efficient. It could take days for your application to process. This is an improvement that I would like to see.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose B. Tech Chemical engineering as I found it to be very interesting. I felt there were a lot of scope after completing the degree. SVCE has a healthy student-to-faculty ratio. Most of the faculty members have completed their masters or PHDs. There are three exams for internal marks. They are usually an hour long and are quite easy to secure good grades. On the other hand, the end-semester exams are usually tough. It requires a good knowledge on the subject to gain passing marks.

Placement Experience :

Students are given basic placement training from the first year. From the start of third students are eligible for placements. They are given opportunities to attend mock placements in the fifth semester. From the start of the seventh semester, various IT companies conduct interviews. The average package is between 4-5 lpa. Usually, more than 85% of the students are placed. My plan is to secure a job in a reputed company.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There has not been a fees hike since I joined the college. It has been the same. Students can avail for scholarships based on their economic means. They also get scholarship if they excel in acdemics. The placement activities have been helpful, but they do expect us to pay extra to avail those services. Usually each year a number of IT companies come for the selection drive. A handful of core companies participate too.

Campus Life :

There are a few fests conducted in the college every year. One of them is called highways. A chief guest is usually a person from the music or movie industry. The library is one of the biggest in the city. There are a wide variety of books available for students. Classroom are basic with the usual amenities like tables, fans, projector etc. The sports teams are not on pair with other colleges. We have average teams in cricket, football and hockey. They are a wide range of clubs present in the college. Some of them are dram club, music club, speaker's forum, science club etc.

The campus placements start in the 7th semester. Due to the recession, there is a lot of backlash when it comes to placements. It has been quite poor for the last few years. But it depends on how the student is prepared for the competitive world.

Placement Experience:

Placement is good for the CSE and IT departments. You can't expect placement if you belong to other departments, there is a placement for the other departments but very less. Campus placement starts in 3rd year itself. They have special classes for Aptitude skills and interview preparation GD and necessary preparations for job placement opportunities. 90% of students from CSE and IT get placed. The average package is 7.5 LPA you can expect a minimum of 3.5 LPA. If you are willing to go for higher studies you can contact the international relation office they have good relations with other universities abroad, they have students exchange programs, research scholarships etc if you are not planning to seat in placement. I plan for higher studies and research after my Btech.
