Remarks :
Dyal Singh College is a part of Delhi University. The admission process for this college was based on the cut-off process which happens for every college affiliated with it. Cut off is based on merit which we get in class 12th. The application form is available on DU's website. The admission process begins after the declaration of class 12th results by the end of May. I availed women's quota of 3% to get admission to college in the third cut off list. The admission process was smooth and I don't think there is any need for improvement.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose English honours because of my interest in humanities. Literature is a mirror of society and makes us understand society better. We get to understand different points of view that belong to different groups. It makes us sensitive towards them. There were 6-8 teachers appointed for every semester to teach a class of thirty people. We had two sections. The faculty was highly encouraging and friendly towards students. Students could reach out to them at any point when they needed guidance. Teaching method was lecture method and teachers also organized workshops, seminars and conferences for students help. We had exams at the end of every semester. and in between semesters we were given assignments to write. Exams were not difficult to pass.
Placement Experience :
The students become eligible for college placements from the 5th semester. I remember Genpact and Decathalon coming to our college. The average package ranged from 2,50,000 to 4,00,000. The placement cell also organizes an internship fair every year for which students are eligible from the third semester. The percentage of students getting placed is moderate. Around 35% to 40% of students got placements. My plan was to study further and go on with my masters in English.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Fees for the first two years was 7000 each. But by the end of the second year, evening college was turned into a full-fledged morning college. Due to lack of space, a new building was built. Our fees got a hike to 10,000 per year. I got an offer from Genpact with a monthly salary of 15,000.
Campus Life :
Rajnigandha is the annual fest conducted every year in the month of February and March. College would be vibrant with students hustling around for the cultural events. Besides, Comhub, the commerce association and Literary Meditations, the English departments also organized fests at their level. The library is a storehouse for more than 58,000 books on different disciplines. The library is spacious with ample space for students and teachers to sit and study. It is fully air-conditioned and facility of UGC-INFLIBNET through which students can access e-journals. N.S.S. is available in the college. Its agenda is to impart "Education through Community Service".
