Remarks :
IIT Dharwad is an emerging new IIT and has a good study culture college and you can find anything related to academics here with friendly professors and seniors to guide you in everything. We have a Student Mentorship Program in which the senior help juniors in academic and other queries. We don't have many high end research facilities for Electrical and Mechanical departments yet but things are changing with procurement and installation of many new equipment and labs in out temporary campus like a Field Electron Microscope installed last year. The climate of Dharwad is really good and its never too hot or cold here. But my college does lack in some other not academic facilities when compared to other IIT's as we don't have separate grounds for Football and Hockey and other recreational activities possible inside campus are few but still you won't get bored as there are many thing you can do with friends apart from regular cultural and other creative activities from over 20 clubs founded and managed by students.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I was interested in Programming and designing new things and like electrical circuits so that all comes under Electronics and Communications. Here this course is called Electrical Engineering and you can choose in which Electrical field you want to specialize in from third year onwards. Here you can even get a minor in some other course like CSE if you take enough extra courses. The faculties are friendly and highly qualified with all of them having completed PhD's. There are Teaching Assistants to help faculties and they are usually PhD or Master students of that faculty. The teaching method is focused on learning and they usually have theory followed by application in Labs making us appreciate the theory. Exams are mostly and sometimes faculty even allows a formula sheet or notes to use for writing the exam depending on the course reducing the need to mug-up. When compared to JEE advanced preparation the exams here were not that difficult and with that much effort you can be among the toppers of the class.
Internships Opportunities :
Yes, Many companies are coming for Internships and some of them are startups while other are established companies and all of that is taken care by CDC which is managed by students and gets guidance and help by Placement coordinator and faculties. Mostly roles offered in current Covid situation are of Software development Intern, ML intern, Data analyst, Front end developer, Back End Developer. Getting a non coding internship is difficult through CDC and fewer companies are core that come for intern work in core Electrical or core Mechanical fields.
Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for campus placements from 7 th Semester (Final Year). The placements which register in CDC (Career Development Cell) IIT Dharwad that year for placement are eligible for campus placements. The companies that have visited our campus are Texas Instruments (TI), Reliance JIO, Infosys, etc. The highest package is around 40lpa and mostly the packages offered is between 6-12lpa . I plan to get placed in CS or Electrical company or pursue MTech.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
I don't get any scholarship but it is possible to avail scholarship for those whose parent's annual income is less than 5lpa . The tution fee in 100000 INR and food, accommodation and other things cost around 36000 every semester. Currently in online mode the food cost of 20000 INR is removed too so net semester fee during online classes is around 114000 INR.
Campus Life :
We have an annual tech fest called Parsec which has many activities and coding competitions and Hackathons. We also have some events and competitions conducted by IIC (Institute Innovation Council) IIT Dharwad which are mainly related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Our library has lots of course books and usually you can get all the books referred by the instructor for most of the courses but there are few courses for which the books available are limited and you may have to use a eBook or Pdf there. For classrooms usually in first year we have combined courses with 120 students but currently that is taking place online but if it starts offline then that may become tough given the seats have been increased to 150 now. For sports and extracurricular activities we have Basketball, Football, Hockey, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton and Athletics with clubs of Dance, Music, Drama, Literary we also have a dedicated music room for the music enthusiasts. All these clubs are run by students and are usually funded by the college. Any fresher can make his own club if it's not currently existing and get it official by getting some members of same interest to join the club.
