Memorable days at IIT Dharwad

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum has all the essential and landmark subjects of mechanical engineering with advanced knowledge like fluid mechanics, machine design, statistical planning and development, etc. The course structure is indeed of IIT standard. The exams are conducted in a semester wise pattern with 2 semesters in each academic year over the course of 4 years. The labs are well maintained with all the equipment and workshop tools.

Placement Experience :

The placement cell is actively working and provides us with the best opportunities that one can expect while being a part of the IIT ecosystem. Companies like Wipro, Bosch, M&M, Tata Motors, Bajaj auto, etc come in regularly on an annual basis and handpick students of quality. I was offered a job at Bosch but since I had plans of studying further I respectfully backed down. The salary packages are attractive comparing with the age of IIT Dharwad, ranging from 7-16 lakhs per annum and the packages are promised to improve year after year.

College Events :

My college has a hub of events waiting for the students to take part in. In the department of sports there is the very famous annual event, IIT sports fest in which students from various IITs take part and compete each other at games and sports like chess, badminton, football, basketball, etc. We also have our very own technical fest which was our first edition this year in Feb 2020, called PARSEC which allows for the display of skills and intelligence of our students and peers.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure for the course of B.Tech in Mechanical engineering is 8.8 lakhs for the entire course of 4 years. The fees is to be paid on a yearly basis, but on request people can also pay the fees on the basis, per semester. The fees is affordable and reasonable in my opinion, considering the quality of education is of the IIT standard and most of the engineering colleges in India have similar or even higher fee structures.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Scholarship is offered to students on various categories to students whose household income is less than 1 lakh per annum, 100% of the tuition fees is availed back. Scholarship is also offered to students whose yearly income is less than 5 lakh per annum, on the production of proper documentation.

Campus Life :

The laboratories in our college are high quality with one of the best staff who are responsible and maintain the appliances and equipments from the get go. All the latest technology and study material in the labs for us is available, for us to better understand our course and learn in a modern and more practical way. Every person I have met here is open minded and non judgemental, I have been helped a lot by my peers and my seniors in times of need.

Admission :

I prepared for JEE which was very tough and after qualifying for JEE advance, I progressed further, achieving a decent rank in the advance exam. I got admission to B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering which was my first choice, on the basis of my ranking in the advance exam, but a minimum 75% score in 10+2 is mandatory as well. The admission process was easy since my couple of friends already studying there and my parents helped me out with it.

Faculty :

The faculty is highly qualified and saying anything less would be just outright lying. Much of our faculty has been or is a part of the IIT Bombay administration which is what makes their teaching process as high standard with quality management of the students. Since the students are numbered unlike in other common engineering colleges, the teachers can pay special attention to us and clear our doubts as I have experienced time and time again.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible to get placements from their 6th to 7th semester as whatever basic is needed by them to a company is embedded into them. Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Cisco, and many other companies visit our college and make many offers. The highest package in my course was 47 L.P.A previous year and average is 7 to 8 L.P.A. Almost all students get placed in our branch almost every year. I just wanna do a start-up after completion of my course and getting my degree.
