Remarks
I applied to both St Thomas College and Christ College, Irinjalakuda for Bcom finance, and got selected in both. I opted for St Thomas College as it was closer to my home and it offered more placement opportunities when compared to Christ college. The college also being in the heart of Thrissur is a great advantage for students as it provides an easy public transportation facility for the lot. The admission process of the college is very simple and informative for both students and parents. Students are selected on the basis of the marks scored and enlisted through a general merit system. The cut-off percentage is 97%. The college also offers a community quota for the students which I myself availed as I had a score of 96%. The admission process is held through a single window and on the said date through the college website. After the selection process, a 3-day Orientation program was held for the students familiarising them with College rules, activities, college protocols, teachers, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Bcom finance as my option as I was always been keen on working in the finance sector and also had taken commerce in my 12th. The college has a great line of amazing teachers with PhDs in their respective fields. Every teacher is very helpful and does their best in making the portions understandable to every student. The teachers also encourage the students to conduct presentations and discussions on the chapters which is a great technique to boost the student's idea of understanding. Each class contains about 60 students and the student ratio is 20:40 which accounts for girls to boys in each class. The college being an autonomous college conducts every exam timely without any delay and the results are also published within 2 months. The course is of a duration of 3 years comprising of 6 seems. Sem exams are conducted at the end of every sem out of 80 marks and an internal exam is also conducted to give an idea of the exam beforehand out of 20. The exams are fairly easy to pass.
Internships Opportunities
Students can do internships that suit them during college time. Internshala and LinkedIn are great places for any student and I myself am doing internships here. The management is also promoting collaborating with different companies to conduct internships and placements. The students also have to prepare a project in their final year with the assistance of their teachers. Doing internships also helps the students to earn certificates and exposure to different areas and experiences.
Placement Experience
Students in the final year are eligible to attend placement drives offered by the campus. The faculty starts preparing the students by the 5th sem. The management has been bringing a lot of companies like Wipro, byjus, Infosys and banks like south Indian banks, Federal Bank, etc and a lot of students were also placed. The college had a record placement this year. Students with a score of 70% percent are eligible to participate. The minimum salary package offered was 2 lakh p.a while the maximum accounted for 4 lakhs p.a.Students from all departments are offered a lot of placement opportunities which is great. As I'm a final year student, I also strive to get placed in a company and also wish to pursue MBA after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure of the college is very reasonable for every student. As for me, the fee for a sem is 3345/-. But the college offers scholarships for the students like Egrant scholarships etc. Which helps the students to get a stipend during the course duration. The scholarships are also great to help for students from different backgrounds as it makes their education more economical. The college also guides the students through different scholarships they can avail on the basis of education, community, financial position, etc which is also a great advantage for the students.
Campus Life
The college has a vintage vibe in its infrastructure. It has 2 libraries with an amazing collection of books for the students attached to a computer lab for the students to conduct more research. The college conducts its annual fest every year where every department gets to compete against each other and win the title. It's a time where students can participate in a variety of events like drama, arts, music, dance, etc. The college giving great importance to its sports team particularly cricket and hockey also conducts sports day every year. The college has proved its excellence in arts and sports and has claimed the D-zone championship title. Different programs are also conducted according to the months like cake fest, food fest, arts fest, etc. Along with this, there are different clubs which students can join according to their interest like cookery club, Ed club, adventure club, dance club, etc. The college also promotes youth clubs like Jesus youth clubs. The classrooms have 4 fans and 2 lights.
