Amrita Bhomle's Review On Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute Of Management Development & Research - [WeSchool], Mumbai

Entrance Preview :

I got through MH-CET. I scored 110. Welingkar fitted all my personal selection criteria like faculty, education, package, etc. So I opted for Welingkar.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Our curriculum was as per Mumbai University's guidelines. We had an elaborate curriculum for educating us on all the important management concepts and subjects. We learnt about the basics of finance, marketing, human resources and operations in first semester. From second semester, we focussed more on our specialisations.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes, Welingkar provides internships to all the students. There were a lot of companies who visited our campus. Few of them were BASF, Capgemini, TCS, Sterlite, Mahindra & Mahindra and many such reputed companies. The stipend depends on company to company and it ranges from 5k to 30k per month.

Placement Experience :

Around 90% students got placed. A lot of big reputed companies visited our campus like Infosys, TCS, Accenture, Mahindra & Mahindra, BASF, Idea Cellular, etc. The packages range from 5 lakh per annum to 15 lakh per annum. There were a lot of good opportunities starting from a start-up to an MNC.

College Events :

We had a lot of events organised in our college. Some were internal and some were external. We had a lot of competitions and festivals like marketing and literary fest. We had alumni meet for all the students where we get to meet all the alumni. We had convocation ceremony as well for all the passed out students.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fees structure for MMS course was feasible but it was expensive for PGDM course. I am not aware of the current number as Welingkar's MMS course has also become autonomous. It might lead to increase in the fees of MMS course as well. MMS course is quite popular with the hiring companies as well irrespective of its feasible fee structure.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There are good government scholarships for MMS students who comes under reserved categories or who are scholars. Loans are also easily available.

Campus Life :

We were a diverse group of different religion, caste, class, society co-existing and competing together. It was really important for our overall development and it helped us in preparing us for the corporate world. Different social gatherings like freshers party, farewell parties, different competitions and sports events were contributing factor.

Alumni/Alumna :

Every Alumnus has an emotional connect with his/her college. They help out as much as they can to a fellow Welinkarite. Every year there is an alumni event held at the campus where everyone gets to interact with the alumni and connect with them.

Exam Structure :

Our day was hectic with all the lectures and so many assignments were given to us. We had a lot of projects too. Our exam final marks composed of internal assignments, projects, tests and one final exam for every subject course. Our year was divided into two semesters with exams at the end of every semester. we had total four semesters. Overall the exam structure was good.

Admission :

The entire process was online. We had to apply online to all the colleges we were interested in and then the results were declared. After college allotment, we physically went to the particular institute we were allotted and took admission. The further process was conducted by the college which was very smooth.

Faculty :

Our faculties were really knowledgeable and experienced in their respective field. Our faculty encouraged and recommended a lot of extra reading which goes a long way to in building your knowledge and expertise. There were few faculties who couldn't match up to our expectations but we still learned everything with the help of our peers.

From trimester 4, students are eligible for placements. Every year, top pharmaceutical corporations pay visits to institutions. Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, market research, consulting, IT healthcare verticals, diagnostics, medical communication, nutraceuticals, and other related healthcare sectors are just a few of the industries where students might find work. Sales, marketing, business analysis, project management, client servicing and business development, international marketing, and operations are among the job profiles they pursue. Every year, the most expensive bundles change. Companies give PPOs to high-performing employees.

Placement Experience:

There is a summer internship after the first 3 trimesters where companies come for interviews and roles depend on the company that selects you. It is for 2-3 months usually and is compulsory ie a part of the curriculum to complete to qualify for the degree. Same for final placement, interviews begin after the 4th trimester is done. More than 50 companies came to campus for final placement and highest package given was 11.2 lakhs and average was 8.8 lakhs which depended on the company and the job role. Roles are offered for consulting, IT, media, manufacturing and banking and finance roles of HR Generalist, HR Business Analyst and Talent Acquisition. Companies such as Godrej, IndusInd bank, TCS, Zee, Meru, Capstone, etc were the prominent companies for the final placement. 100% placement was achieved for the HR specialization.

Students sit for their Summer placements from the 2nd Trimester onwards. NM has a trimester system. A total of 181 companies visited the campus for the Summers of 2020-22 batch. 28 of them were from Fortune 500 companies and 90 new recruits. The total number of offers made was roughly 650-700 and still counting. The highest stipend was 3 lakhs and the average stood at 1.2 lakhs. Top 50 offers clocked an average of 2.48 lakhs. The different profiles for which the companies came were IT analytics, Consulting, E-commerce, BFSI, FMCG, FMCD, Retail, Pharmaceutical, Media & Telecom, Logistics, oil, and gas, etc. NMIMS Mum has 100% placement records. After doing my MBA I plan to go back to Corporate and learn and implement at the workplace. Thereby have self-growth and also bring revenues to the company.

They do have a placement committee. Most of my classmates are already placed at top-notch brands and agencies through the placement cell. Post 9 months, we have to do a mandatory internship to get hands-on experience of the industry life and work culture.
