Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE). I scored 69%. Choosing the college was an accident as I hadn't filled forms for many colleges. I chose the course because I wanted to study a combination of English Honours and Journalism to further pursue a career in journalism. English Honours helps a lot in developing good writing skills, which is required for print journalism.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course was extensive, with literature books from various eras. At that time, we did not have semester system and were still studying under the annual exam system. The course is designed as per the guidelines of Delhi University and goes into the details of books written by popular as well as classical authors. We also had Indian writing course.
Internships Opportunities
No, internships were not provided by the college. However, I interned with several news organisations like The Hindu and Asian Age on my own accord to gain experience in the field of Journalism.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of my college has become better since I left college. Companies came for placements but I do not have much clue as I was never interested in getting a job then. I wanted to pursue post graduation in Journalism, so I went for higher studies.
College Events
We had freshers to begin with, the spic macay event, annual fest which was not a great affair in our college. Annual fests were also conducted by individual departments. We also had farewell party at the end of our 3 years. We have an annual alumni meet.
Fee Structure And Facilities
My fee was extremely low and we paid only 4500-4800 a year for the course. I am unable to find the fee structure but this my fees in first year was 4500 and in the second and third year it was between 4600 and 4800. It must have increased a little now due to the semester system.
Alumni/Alumna
We have annual alumni meet. I am in touch with my seniors and everyone is doing good in their career and is associated with reputed organisations. My seniors are very helpful and I still go to them for advice.
Exam Structure
During my time there, exams were conducted twice a year. One were the internal exams and did not hold much weightage but were conducted for personal assessment and one were the final exams, held by the university. College life was mostly chilled out.
Admission
I filled the college in DU common OMR form. In 2009, online forms were not available so I had to go to north campus to buy and fill the form. Then I separately filled the CAT entrance form, gave CAT exam, and my percentage was above the required cut-off. I went, talked to the HOD, who asked me a few questions and then I submitted the fees.
Faculty
The faculty of my college was extremely dedicated, and was the highlight of the course. Teachers were highly educated (PH.Ds) Delhi University teachers and would teach us with special attention.
