Remarks :
Comparing it with likes of IITs NITs, BITs, its very poor. Some labs are okay. But again, its better than most of other colleges of the state. No bus facility is there. Canteen is good. The campus is very green and a really nice place in the heart of city. Although its irrelevant yet I still I want to mention that both railway station and bus stand are very near and so are few shopping malls.
Entrance Preview :
From the beginning I was interested in computer and technology. I gave JEE Mains and scored 145 and my rank was 25664 i also gave other exams like VITEEE (Rank 12564), SRMJEE(Rank 1600) I always thought I would go to VIT but my mains rank was so good that I had to take SGSITS because of less fees and better placements.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The college has a research environment there are total of 8 semesters divided in four years in the first year all the branches have same course, from second year onwards our course is according to our branch i am pursuing CS and what I heard from our seniors is that CS has a very lengthy course, you have to do many assignments and be regular in class.
Internships Opportunities :
There is usually 1 month’s gap between even and odd semester, that gap is not sufficient for anyone to do internships, do not give any kind of attendance concession or do not make any provision to facilitate the people who are willing to do internship. Even for the firms which visit campus for internships, the faculties have a negative attitude and do not allow students to go. They have to skip classes and go for internship and later on they are asked to maintain 100% attendance in remaining classes. Even sometimes faculties call HRs of these firms saying our students will join late and will do a 1 month internship only another thing I got to know from my seniors i am in first year so I can't really judge.
Placement Experience :
Its okay, neither good nor bad. If you don't really screw up your college grades, you'll definitely have an offer letter in hand at the end of placement season and if you are better than average, you'll probably have more than one. But if you go by the average salaries that are offered, its bad. Majority of placed students (80%) join companies like Infosys, Accenture and others in the same salary range (3-5 LPA). Mechanical department sees comparatively better opportunities than other dept. For computer science and IT, Microsoft is the only dream company that can be mentioned here. Amazon, Google, Oracle, Adobe, Directi, Goldman Sachs and similar ones DO NOT visit here.
College Events :
Facilities are extended to the students to take part in various types of literary and cultutral activities. Social gathering, fiesta, fresher's day, hostel night etc. are the regular annual events taking place in the Institute. Students are also participatng in inter-collegiate and inter-university competitions and youth festival some of them are as follows: ABHYUDAYA, SURSANGAM.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee here is very nominal and feasible. It is one of the reason why I opted for this college. I have to pay around 26k per semester. So for 8 semester I have to pay around 210k which is very less compared to other private or government college. My birth place is Indore and am staying with my parents so my other expenses are also very less.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Yes there are scholarship available for students who are getting good grades but these are only available to OBC, SC and ST. The students with general category can't avail any scholarship with such less fees I guess there is no use of loan facility.
Campus Life :
SGSITS has a cool and calm atmosphere around. students are very much aspiring in nature. It's canteen is always full of people who sit in groups and study together even in too much noises. Certain fun and frolic activities keep going on besides all the classrooms. Students here have come from many states. Only 15-25% students are from Indore itself i haven't been a part of Debate and Painting Competition because this is my first year but I have heard it from my senior that they are pretty good.
Hostel Facilities :
The college has both boys and girls hostel but seats are limited. Its cheaper to stay in hostel than staying out. The quality of students here is same as that of entire college - geeks, smarts, dumbs, you'll find all. The infrastructure of hostel is poor, really poor. Maintenance is worse. Mess food is as good as a mess food can be, but there is an option of opting out of hostel mess and eat at some other place which usually will be equally bad. The atmosphere there is as that of a typical hostel can be. Friendships, fun, booze, smoke, last night studies, you'll experience all. You'll get to learn a lot of stuff there, believe me. Don't leave if you get a change to stay. You can always leave it after a semester if you don't like it, this seldom happens though but I am staying with my parents so I can't say anything more.
Alumni/Alumna :
The HPCL chairman today is an alumni from SGSITS. Many more are doing great work who have passed out from SGSITS Many are in IAS, IPS and abroad. One of the alumni has so many patents in USA he was an ex IAS officer ranked 3rd in IAS exams and now settled in USA he was one of the key persons of MICROSOFT cloud. I haven't had much interaction with the seniors but whenever I needed help they were very cooperative and helpful.
Exam Structure :
Regular mid-sem tests (2 tests per subject per semester) and assignments, they do count in overall evaluation. If taken seriously they do help a lot for preparing of the end - semester exam. Currently, I am giving end semester and I have 13 days gap for my next paper.
Admission :
The admission was a very lengthy process. First we had to give college and course preference and then we went to college for verification purpose. After few days a merit list came and based on our rank the college was allotted to us. I got SGSITS (IT Branch) so I gave up my seat and opted for second round. In the second merit list I got SGSITS (CS branch) then I went to the college to finalize it.
Faculty :
Though it varies from dept to dept yet overall its better than all other colleges in the state. There are departments like mechanical and civil where you'll find very experienced and senior professors and then there are departments like IT where faculties are comparatively novice. Departments like computer engineering and electronics have fair share of both this is what I got to know from seniors right now I am in first year so I can't really decide how the faculty is.
