Remarks :
The admission process was extremely smooth for such a big Government University which has over 1000 thousand students. When I decided to give JEE, I had certain colleges in mind apart from the IITs and the NITs which I would want to get admitted in, and Jamia Millia Islamia was one of them. I applied for a Muslim Quota there, wherein my admission was taken on the basis of my JEE Main score, which was 131. I got shortlisted in the third list and took admission in the ECE course in the Bachelor of Technology program. During counselling day, we were required to sign a few papers, e.g. affidavits. After that, I was made to choose my branch and that was it for the counselling day. I was given a joining date and then freed of the process.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose the ECE course in Jamia Millia Islamia because it was the perfect blend between the core courses, like Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and also with the Computer Science branch. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to learn the best of both worlds, which I very rightly did. In my branch, there were approximately 25 teachers, and around 350 students, ranging from the first year to the final year. My faculty mostly consisted of PhDs from various fields of ECE, namely Digital Communication, Analog Electronics, etc. The lab supervisors held a Masters degree to the very least, and all of them were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. My semesters were usually of 5 months, in which we used to take 2 mid-sem exams and 1 end-sem exam. The whole course was designed in a manner to suit well the examination partitions and dates.
Internships Opportunities :
The internship opportunities are not as good as other Tier 1 colleges. Although the scene is changing now, a few companies are coming. The internships are usually in the fields of Sales and SDE. The projects are usually not disclosed as often until you get into a company.
Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for placements in the 7th semester. That is when the companies start coming for various roles, name SDE, Analysts, Sales Reps, Engineer Trainees, etc. Around 200 offers are made in the college, the highest being 19 LPA for SDE by Innovaccer. The average package is around 5 LPA. Around 60 percent of students get placed. I plan to work for a company and then receive higher education later.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The cost to study in Jamia Millia Islamia can arguably be the cheapest B. Tech. program in all of India. My total course fee was around 32000 for 4 years at the college. I did not get a hostel, but the ones who do get a very cheap stay, which 2000 per year for a bed and 2000 per month for mess services. I did not get any scholarships.
Campus Life :
The campus life at Jamia Millia Islamia was better than average at the most. The engineering faculty held 1 fest every year, usually in the month of March where there were many activities, ranging from Technical to Cultural. The books in the library were made easily available by the faculty, but it was a bit difficult to obtain journals. The classrooms were well-spaced. Most of them were occupied with ACs, which tended to become a necessity everyday. The sports Complex of Jamia Millia Islamia is probably one of the best in North India. We have a cricket ground which is capable enough to organise a Ranji match. There is a football pitch that is great as well, but the best part of it is the Indoor Sports Complex. There a numerous clubs in our college, both technical and non technical, the best being Enactus JMI.
