Ecole Intuit Lab- Design, Learning & Success

Remarks :

The admission was based on merit. We had to give an entrance exam that focused on logical thinking, typography, basic hand-drawing skills, and design thinking. We also had a portfolio review, followed by an interview. One was made to feel comfortable, as the faculty wanted to know our thinking and process behind each piece.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because it’s streamed and lined towards visual communications. It’s focused on what I want my future to be based in visual communications and graphic design. They also had a clear course of how things would fall into place in the next 4 years. 1st year is about our hand-drawn skills, observation, creativity, external drawing, painting and art history. The rest if the years focus on softwares, internships, and a deep understanding of the world of graphic design. We have 13 subjects per week, the faculty-student ratio is great. With a maximum of 25 students in class, it’s very easy for a professor to look after all our needs and queries. Our faculty are some of the best in the industry. They are all extremely qualified and take us to step by step with each assignment. Each assignment is carefully crafted to teach us something new and exciting. We have one week of exams each week. That week is intensive as we have live briefs, actual clients.

Internships Opportunities :

We have a lot of internship opportunities throughout the 4 years. It is compulsary for all students to intern in two different organizations before they graduate. One for 3 months, the other for 6 months. Due to our exhibitions, many students get offers from organizations like Landor & Fitch, Seenk, Open Strategy & Design, Thought Over Design, Studio Glyph, GWS Kids, Chromaticks, etc. Our college insists on paid internships. Most of our students get an average of 10,000 rupees per month of their internship.

Placement Experience :

We have internships from the second year. This gears us towards industry life. In the summer before the third year, we need to intern for 1-3 months. In the 4th year, we intern for half the year and come back in the 2nd semester for our grand projects. Almost all of our students leave with an internship/job offer at the end of 4 years. This is due to the constant effort of our administration to organise exhibitions that invite industry greats. My plan after Ecole, is to work at a branding agency for a few years before pursuing an MFA in Graphic Design.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

It is a little expensive. The fees reduce by 10-15% each year. The total, after 4 years comes to 21 Lakhs. It’s a fixed amount. But this is because of the state-of-the-art teaching, faculty, campus, and extra-curricular activities. We also have many opportunities, throughout the 4 years to visit the other Ecole Intuit Lab campuses. Be it in Paris, Aix or Brazil. This could be 3 months of student exchanges or internships.

Campus Life :

We have an exhibition at the end of each year (Designxt), where we showcase the work of each Lab (year). All the various projects are displayed and industry stalwarts, along with parents of students, come to see our work. This takes place in May/June. We also have gaming fests, where gaming enthusiasts all across Mumbai have the opportunity to compete within themselves. We have a library that is full of books related to graphic design, advertising, and design thinking. We also have many editions of the esteemed CA (Communication Arts) magazine. It’s a quiet place to unwind and absorb all the knowledge. We have a lot of indoor games and competitions, like table tennis, carrom, chess, etc. We also have a sports club that organizes football tournaments for all Ecole students. We have many clubs, typography club, editorial club, food club, film club etc. Everyone has a way of portrying their interests and hobbies. We also have a canteen with amazing food.

Being able to get admission is one of the dream come true for a student. To get admission in such highly competitive world where so many students are applying for a course and wants to follow their passion, it was very difficult to get admission in the college. The application process was simple though.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of the course wants to break status quo and encourage the new innovative methods of learnings and explorings and set new ways. They want the students to feel and experience the design world. The students are also encouraged to learn and develop sensitive emotions so that they can improve their creativity level as well as are able to take up challenges to demonstrate their personal connection with the design philosophy.

This is not a full time course and a student can get admission in a regular full time course side by side. The admission process is easy and it involves the student to be passionate about the course. They check if the student has completed class 10+2 from any recognized school or board.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The main purpose of teaching this course to the passionate students is to provide them a pathway through different and distinctive levels of subject competencies and different areas about innovation and depth learning in the field of apparels, fashion and designing. The students are placed under the mentor who have a very good experience.

Candidates should have passed class 10+2 from any recognised university and the minimum percentage isn't required here as the selection criteria. The student can pursue a regular course like Bcom or BA along with this course. You can call the management on the hotline if there's any confusion and they will sort it out.

Placement Experience:

Most of the students start their own fashion house but few of them who are looking for full time job opportunities can contact the college placement department and let them know that they would be looking forward to the job placements offered by the college. They will fill the application form and will be interviewed at the time of the end of the program.

I was always interested in art and sketching in school, which in turn led to an assumption to many close relatives of mine, including my parents, that I will want to surely pursue a career in fine arts or something. My mom surfed more on the internet, and learnt about a design career, which is a combination of common other careers like engineering, architecture and commercial arts.

Admission:

There are 3 main competitive layers of the entrance exam. The first one is theoretical, and for that, many students including me were attending classes. I attended a class every weekend for two years which helped me pass the first theoretical exam of MIT institute of Design. After getting a call from the Institute about my selection, I got ready for my next exam, which was the Studio test.
