Yakshith's Review On University Of Agricultural Sciences - [UAS], Bangalore

Remarks :

University of agriculture science is the oldest agri university in Karnataka with 4 campuses. It has a beautiful campus of 1200acres in bangalore. The college has around 27departments related to agriculture and social science from which we can specialize on. I could make a list of negatives of the college such as poor administration efficiency, outdated infrastructure(there were literally 4 microscopes for a batch of 50 in genetics and pathology class), bureaucratic apathy where they don?Ûªt nt care for students at all. One of the most terrifying things are the marking pattern and examination where there are marks for attendance(just your physical presence is needed) and non synchronous exam pattern. The field practices are outdates with poor infra. Very few field visits and no encouragement to think out of the box. Boys hostel is too old and so are a few classrooms. Apart from this there are a few departments such as entomology and physiology which gives you freedom to do research and they do organize seminars. The department is studded with top class faculty with progressive mindsets. Regarding admission, it is through KCET and the dates of admission typically start from the month of june july in accordance with the list of results.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this degree as i was deeply passionate about agriculture since my childhood. The degree catapulted me to new heights and i really enjoy being the field. The faculty student ratio is very poor falling somewhere in the range of 1 faculty for 50-60students. Most of the faculty hold a PhD in thier respective fields and a few even with PDF degrees and dissertation in many journals. But. mere PhD will not make you a faculty! Many of them dont have the required teaching skills and they just try to recite what is there in the book or ppt. Its very hard to spend 1 hour in the classroom to listen to just what is in the ppt! There are a few who don?Ûªt even care to teach, ?ÛÏI will get my salary if i teach or no?۝ is a common dialogue of professors here. The exam pattern is ok with 50 marks for internals and 50 for externals. The external paper is out dated with no updation to recent syllabus, there is repetition of previous year questions( just studying previous year paper can land you on first grade). The supplementary policy is also lame as the rechecking which cost you 800bucks.

Internships Opportunities :

There is a mandatory internship known as RAWEP( rural agri work experience program). It is a rural immersion program for three months and one the best things that a student can experience during the course.

Placement Experience :

You can come to a conclusion over placement when i tell you that there is no data over how many companies visited, average and highest package! Most of them enter to post grad while a few aspire for banking exams and civils. The proportion of self employment is very low and also very few return back to thier villages!

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee is structure is very nominal compared to other professional courses. Semester fee may range from 10k to 15k and it is reasonable. Scholarship are available with the state scholarship under vidya siri. University scholarship based on merit is also available. It is highly tilted towards the underprivileged and talented students. GM category students should not expect any of it. Campus placement is just not there! I can say its 0% placement. The placement cell is a redundant body with no industry academia link and no proactive measures to place Undergrad students. No skill training or exposure is given for it.

Campus Life :

The campus library is one of the biggest in bangalore. It is loaded with books as well as a computer section with subscription to e-books and journals. The annual intercollegiate and inter university sports competition is conducted with pomp and show. A lot of encouragement is given to sports and cultural events such a cricket, football, volleyball, kho kho, badminton, chess, kabaddi, traditional dance and music forms along with literary events.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I particularly chose this course for Macro and Micro Economics which interest me so much. The course is designed in a specific way so as to increase the students' skill and understanding in core subjects revolving economics and make them future ready for critical thinking and problem solving in the field of economics. The exams are conducted four times a semester (3 interim tests and 1 Final exam). The interim tests are conducted once every month and final exams are conducted in the ending 4th month

Placement Experience:

Placements are good enough for IT fields and you will get a decent amount of package. But if you want core placements we may get a few companies with few jobs so you should be competitive enough to crack these. Last year our college got the highest package of 52LPA. An average package is around 7.5 LPA.

Admission:

The admission was on the basis of 10+2 board examination and I applied to the college through their official website where the application form was available. The admission process was easy and I got selected, after I was called upon the campus for the counselling session.

Placement Experience:

At the end of last year the college arranged placements for the students. The average package run between Rs.5 to 8 lakhs per annum with 80% of the students getting placed. Various hospitals, institutes came to interview including a Grayson, Indian heart clinic.
