SGSITS - Detailed review

Remarks :

S.G.S.I.T.S is one of the oldest and well established technical institutes in the country (Since 1952). Often monikered as the IIT of MP (before the establishment of the actual IIT Indore). With the reputation of best äóìstate runäó institute in MP SGSITS becomes a no-brainer choice for every engineering aspirant missing out on a probable NIT seat. The admission process goes through several counselling rounds run by DTE(Directorate of Technical Education) with the cut-off set on JEE-MAINS score. With satisfactory campus selection ratio, fine location and positive environment and a NITesque feel go for SGSITS.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Engineering degree of SGSITS include 9 courses (CSE, IT, ECE, MECH, ELEC, CIVIL, EI, IPE, BIO-MED) with different cutoffs prescribed for different courses. Faculty to student ratio has always been healthy. The faculty members most of them possess masteräó»s degree in their respective fields with some senior professors in every department possessing a doctorate. However, the teaching methods is more of a hit and miss target. Some will be extremely good while some will just do their jobs, one positive to take here though is no one really refuses to help in any regard, students enjoy fine assistance. Now to the terminal exams, passing them is not fairly easy (Never go for those cliche engineering facts on passing exams by studying overnight, cause you wonäó»t). Exams are set well and checking is fairly strict and everything counts from the mid-terms, assignments, internals to externals. One needs to do well in all the aspects to get a good grade.

Placement Experience :

The most important and endorsing aspect of any institute is the campus placement activity and history. SGSITS in this aspect performs well above average. Companies offering as high as 24 LPA arrive for campus placement activity. The placement season commences soon after the 6th semester is wrapped up. However, here in SGSITS, the Training and Placement cell organises numerous mock sessions identical to the actual stages involved for placement activity of a company to ensure fulfilling practice. Ample number of opportunities are provided to the students in this regard. Nearly all the students ELIGIBLE for placements are rewarded with one for CSE, IT, ECE, EI, IPE and partially ELEC. Placements for CIVIL and MECH is fairly weak as is the generalised case throughout.

College Events :

Campus life of the students is a fairly vibrant one, with the institute located at the heart of the city, students can avail every possibility of enjoyment. With the famous 56 shops, the TI mall, Rajwada market, Sarafa bazaar, Railway station to name a few, all in the vicinity. Institute library is well equipped with the needs and demands of the students and is regularly updated with research papers and journals. The institute is well equipped with sports platforms from cricket to football to basketball and volleyball with a fairly extravagant sports meet organised annually. Extracurricular activities is a downside though with different clubs mostly on their own to organise events from fund raising to setting up. Minimal assistance is provided by the institute. However, multiple clubs acting upon different aspects from coding to personality development to core knowledge function independently and regularly organise events. The annual fest - AAYAM is a fairly dull affair.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The overall fee inclusive of everything per semester is around Rs. 34,000. This includes the exam fee, library facilities, and all the small charges throughout the session(Accommodation and food excluded). The institute supports all the scholarship schemes of the government, one can easily avail these packages. Now, moving on to campus placements, ample companies arrive for campus hiring. Companies of the stature of Goldman Sachs to mass recruiting companies like Infosys, wipro, TCS etc. Fair opportunities for internships too are provided to the students during their penultimate year of the course.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel is quite affordable. Limited accommodation being a downside though. Food and infrastructure is Okayish. However, numerous options of private hostels, PGs and rental flats are available all the vicinity.

I would say it is absolutely worth every penny. The environment, infrastructural support, the kind of exposure students get in terms of industry visits, excursions, trips etc. makes it a real value-for-money place.

Remarks:

If college will improvise the college placement ratio than that would be very helpful for all the students studying there.

Admission:

I have 60% above percentage in my 12th class so I was eligible to get admission in that college. The college is closer to my home also that's why I opted for that college. They took photocopy of all valid documents and first instalment of fee. they have there own bus facility and hostel as well which is suitable to all.
