MICAN Madness

Remarks :

MICA, the School of Ideas, focuses on creativity, positioning itself as a niche marketing college. The batch size is small relative to the major IIMs, and for its placements receives unique brands like EA and NBA. This was why I decided to pursue my MBA from here. The College has good faculty, with tremendous experience from various colleges. College life and peer to peer learning is the something that is most attractive part in my opinion. But, some of the courses tend to be redundant and can be curated better. I was an education counselor at IMS Learning Resources Pvt Ltd, and through my mentor there, I decided to go to MICA. I preferred this college over MDI and new IIMs as I believe it is more established in the field of Marketing and has good placement prospects as well. Although, if I would have converted my XLRI call I would have chosen XLRI over MICA.

Course Curriculum Overview :

As mentioned earlier, the courses in the first year establish the base for students in the field of marketing. Each classroom has about 50 students to one faculty member teaching. many of the faculty have teaching experience in the Top IIMs and other top B-schools. One of the faculty was chosen as the professor of the year for Inside IIM. The term exams were challenging in many aspects and some were extremely difficult to pass. While on the other hand, some were easy to pass. Hence, I would say average overall in terms of difficulty.

Internships Opportunities :

Internship opportunities are available on campus at MICA. I was placed at PUMA India Pvt Ltd and I was compensated at 1L for the two months. Students placed at HUL and Loreal were given about 3.2L for the same duration. My project was surrounded around the social media marketing team especially Instagram. The result was that I helped my team reach their goal of 700k followers on Instagram by the end of Dec 2020.

Placement Experience :

Campus placements were well-conducted and timely, considering the pandemic this last year as well. For my summer placements in 2019, the process started in September and ended in early October, where I was placed at PUMA India Ltd. For the final placements as mentioned earlier, i was placed at Collegedunia.com. 100% of students have received placements and companies ranged from HUL to here. The highest salary was about 32L, average Salary is still unknown. My plans after placements are to do extremely well at my new job and hopefully being at collegedunia for a long time and being an integral part of its success going ahead.

Fees and Financial Aid :

The fees hike policy in recent times I believe is uncalled for where there has been an increase of about 1.5L this year. 20L seems worth it, but beyond seems a bit unnecessary. The job I got from placements was here at Collegedunia.com as a Business Development - Young leaders role. There is also good opportunities for scholarships once you are a student.

Campus Life :

The marketing fest takes place in the month of November, which is known as MICANVAS. This year it has been chosen as the 6th best fest in the country. The library has a vast collection of books and on a weekly basis, u can issue books and reissue them as per need basis. Amenities are good in the classroom, including comfortable seats, charging points, AC, as well clean boards with markers and pens. Sports life is the highlight at MICA, with it being an integral of Student life. Sports including, Cricket, Basketball, Football, TT , Tennis, Frisbee, Badminton, etc are all played on a regular basis on campus. I was part of the social service wing at MICA, known as Jagriti which has its own Instagram handle as well as website.

Hostel Facilities :

I stayed in the all-boys hostel, Palaash, in my first year. The room was wholesome and was a sharing room with Fan, cupboards, storage space, 2 plug points, table, and chair. The food is the best at MICA, with an air-conditioned mess as well as the best breakfast I have personally had. 4 meals are available throughout the day Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, and Dinner. There is also the infamous Chhota Canteen which provides food 24x7. Hostel fees are included in the 20L fees and I believe it is affordable as well as at par.

Interview Experience :

The interview for me was long and went for about 45 mins. It was HR-related, life-related, marketing-related as well as career choice-related. Group Exercise was conducted here, and it was about coming with 5 exciting Instagram captions for 5 celebrities in 20 mins, as given on the placards during the session. I prepared with my mentor for these rounds and went through an entire process of GD & PI sessions at IMS.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The out carricular activities are also present in the college and the students are participating in the activities as well. Teachers need to work on the mode of teaching like the classes timing are not fixed and some teachers need to work on the subject properly. The time duration is very low with exams and some exams are continuously going on in the college.

Placement Experience:

After completing the summer internship the placement season starts at the campus which is roughly around 3rd sem. Many reputable companies visit the campus like TCS, Adani, Vodafone, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Torrent, Federal Bank and many more... This year Federal Bank has offered the highest package to student of around 12 lac and hired 2 students. The average package CTC would be around 5 lac and many job roles are being offered according to the company's profile but there are limited companies that come in the field of HR. The placement rate is around 90% and if you don't get selected then you can apply from outside on your own to the companies.
