My college experience

First of all, I had heard from everyone about the quality of teaching in this college. Also, the new department of Biotechnology was something I took as a challenge. The admission process was simple, I got into the second merit list. The cleanliness is a major issue in this college. Rest all are indeed good.

First of all, I was wondering about pursuing biology in a more special and different manner. Then I came to know about Biotechnology. As mentioned earlier, I was keen on experiencing the quality of the teaching staff here. Three of the main teachers hold a PhD and the rest are currently seeking their PhDs. Hence, Research Methodology was an interesting subject for us. The faculty: student ratio would be 1:3 as we had around 45 students in our first semester. The student count is always in the range of 35-45. The exams are easy if you really attend the lecs and it's not difficult to pass.

As I am in the biotechnology department, the students mostly prefer for MSc and then PhD and very few look for jobs. However, there are job opportunities in the big biotech and pharmaceutical companies like Cipla. I am focusing on doing MSc. or Integrated MSc-PhD.

The fees paid yearly was around 35-39 thousand INR. The fees look really apt as we used to spend almost 3 hours in the lab doing some experiments with some costly instruments. I didn't opt for any scholarship as I didn't face any issue regarding fee payment.

The annual fest is known as Visions and our Biotech department's technical fest is known as Operon. Both the fests are conducted in almost the same time under the umbrella of Utkarsha mostly during the Dec-Feb season. The classrooms are spacious and there are lots of great books in the library. Librarian always helps us in bringing some new editions of the books we need after getting approval from our HOD. There are various student associations like Cultural association, Malayalam association, Tamil Association, Science Association, Skyline and Nirmitee Kendra among the notable ones.
