Remarks :
Media and Communication was a course which has a vast approach in the field of Media. The course I opted for had subjects like Journalism (in all the fields like broadcast, newspaper, radio) RJ in Radio, Filmmaking, PR and Marketing, Foreign Languages and on the last year final semester students were supposed to take up a specialisation course according to their choice. It seemed to be interesting and it would help me channalise my thoughts about my future after 3 years of graduation. For me, apart from this, the place played a huge role while selecting the college. Manipal is a small stundent town which is situated in the costal part of Karnataka, India. It is consist of students from all around the world which was a good opportunity of cultural exchange.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I loved my experience in Manipal and the with my course. It was mostly because the college always encouraged knowledge beyond the curriculum and classes which helped me as a person to learn more about other things. It opened more doors in the field of Media for me as it was a mixture of everything. The faculties were mostly very supportive, very knowledgeable and very approachable at least in my case. I always had their help wherever however I wanted. MIC is a small colleges with less number of students which helped me to know more people, exchange knowledge and learn things. There is no concept of superiority amongst the senior and junior students which made the environment very pleasant and easy to access. Manipal as a place is very enriching and fulfilling. It's a small student town and has a very cosy environment. It has more than 20 colleges and there are a lot of cultural gatherings to exchange knowledge which made it easy to learn new things everyday. The weather is a bit too humid which is very irritating sometimes but apart from it for me it was a good three years of experience.
Internships Opportunities :
Photography Promotion Trust by Padmashree Sudhark Olwe.
Placement Experience :
Placement for our batch wasn't very fulfilling. The companies like genisis, Reuters, NDTV, Ad Factors, Social Panga etc. There is a alumni group of the entire university which gives you update about vacancy in their respective companies
College Events :
It was like an entertaining show. We had events every now and then. And it was college wise events related to culture, debate, sports etc. Extra curricular life in Manipal is extremely overwhelming. Because it has several music societies, theatre groups, dance crew, technical groups etc. And all the clubs has freedom to do shows and crowd engagement things. I was a part of two theatre groups, convener of a national level debate tournament,PR head of an online news organisations run by students and many more. It wasn't very hectic for me to maintain my extra curricular and academics in the right path. In these terms Manipal has a lot of opportunities. There are a lot of actors in Mumbai theatre groups are from Manipal, people from dance crew are pursuing dance as their full time career even after college etc. It is a very overwhelming experience.
Campus Life :
It has a sports complex called Marina, it has good medical facilities for stundets as it has KMC right in middle, the WiFi facility is not good, as I never experienced a free WiFi network there. It has a common food court for colleges nearer to MIT and another one nearer to KMC. All the colleges has library of their own but with your id card you have access to mostly all the college libraries. And the labs are well equipped.
Hostel Facilities :
There are different levels of hostels available for girls in Manipal. Atleast in the area I was into. The first year was in a triple sharing shared bathroom hostel. Where I had my best experience. I have no complaint about cleaning, hygiene etc. It had a curfew of 9:30pm. The second year was in a double sharing attached bathroom. The problem was the hostel was too huge, it had around 30000 or more girls. Sometimes I had problems with the caretakers or the warden however those are my personal experience. Otherwise the hostel facilities are very good. For my experience in the third year I moved out of the campus and stayed in a rented house with three flatmates. Which was around 8k per person with fully furnished house. It was a great experience and our owners was too sweet to us which made it even more easy.
