Jayaraj J's Review On NSS College Of Engineering - [NSSCE], Palakkad

Remarks :

Serene look and feel of this prestigious instituition, located at the heart of western ghats. Campus spread across 120 acres, one of the oldest insituition providing quality education, with good infrastructure. My passion for computer science landed me to this place, not decided me, but my rank. As a government funded instituition, fees is extremely low as compared to any other engineering instituition in State of Kerala. A vibrant and supportive community of students is present there.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Extremely outdated syllabus is follwing. NOT SINGLE HANDEDLY BY OUR COLLEGE, BUT EVERY ENGINEERING INSTITUTION COMES UNDER KTU, Kerala Technological University, named after APJ Abdul Kalam. The first year syllabus is really a shit. Myself, a computer science student, learning Civil, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics, etc. shitty courses for nothing. First year is really intorable as a technically passionate student as concerned. Only one of ten papers is only related with computer science. Extremely disappointing for me, since, comparing to tier I colleges, this is a major fallback for tier III universities like KTU. Really really outdated syllabus is follwed by every colleges under the KTU. I have seen a statistical report that 90% of passouts are unfit for engineering sector. What's the point in not knowing how to code properly even after 1st year of computer science course? First year extremely shitty. So use the time to do some extra activities out of the textbook. I spent mostly on doing MOOC courses, which are far far better the university's syllabus.Societies like IEEE, IEDC etc. are there to rescue students. Seniors from our college are really supportive, and always tell us there mistakes and motivate us not to fall in those again.

Placement Experience :

IT giantS like TCS, INFOSYS, NISSAN DIGITAL are visiting and selecting handful of students. iEDC is promoting enterprenurial skills in our campus, and a lot of patents are being recognized with its rate increasing.

College Events :

Dyuksha, the flagship techno-cultural fest of our college, is one of the best in South India. In addidition to that, we have IEEE XPERION, a flagship event conducted by our IEEE and its allied societies. Addition to that, we have FOSS CELL, STACS, etc.

Campus Life :

Established in 1960, the college was one of the oldest premier engineering institution in Kerala, funded by government. But thereafter the glory and it's developement has been immensely backlogged. No further major developments has been occured. The college's labs and workshops are terrific. Still underdeveloped. The college's downfall has many reasons.

Hostel Facilities :

I've been staying at Educare mens hostel. It has awesome facilities. Modern rooms, good ambience, and a ground for playing. But the only fall back is it is 1 km from the college, it is tiresome task to walk 4 km (6 kms if you go to gym) everyday. That too with the hot sun standing almost above the head, every noon coming and returing from hostel is really a tedious task. The food available is awesome. Hostel seat is easy to available, it is secondly preferred after college hostel, but I preferred it first place. Range is also an issue. Jio has not much coverage exept decent browsing speed.

The students become eligible for the campus placements in the 6th semester. The average students getting placed in the mechanical department are about 30%. My plan after completing my mechanical engineering degree is to go for masters in business administration

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum contains a vast area of nursing aspects and they include OSKI as a new component of the nursing curriculum which prepares as well enough to face the job interviews ahead. But the time limit is so short that we find it difficult to complete the syllabus on time. As the syallabus has changed to semester system we are expected to write exams more frequently but that is good as it helps as to improve our writing skills.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Architecture is a tough and time taking course, the syllabus fine in the first three years but later on it becomes hectic. Maybe the syllabus can be reduced and I feel that five years is too long for architecture degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course mainly because of the job opportunities. There is plenty of teaching and non-teaching staff in the college. All the teaching staff has Mastered nursing and all are very talented teachers. The teaching method is lecturing and av aids are also used by the teachers like projectors. The exams are conducted after the completion of each unit. It's an average tough exam to score good marks. The only problem is that exams will be conducted daily and the personal behavior of some staff may vary from person to person.

No campus placement is provided by college because it is a government college. After getting degree I planned to practice in Kerala high court and also wants to attempt judicial service examination. I also planned to join LLM at central University or in Canada. In Canada there are many opportunities for LLB graduates.
