College with good values

Remarks :

The College is good especially for those who plan on pursuing other competetive exams. The curriculum is such that is gives free time to students to prepare for UPSC/CA/CS/Judiciary. It also gives students the time to do running internships. Again, it depends a lot on the students to make the most of it. If one is not willing to work hard, the college might seem not so good for that individual.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is very similar to CLAT with focus being on Legal aptitude and GK, something which is very important for every law student. It also includes logical reasoning and aptitude for English and a little bit of basic maths. Hence all areas are covered properly for students hoping to make a career in law. Since every student should have a good grasp of English in today's era, especially in the corporate sector, a good amount of marks are dedicated to it. In 2016 the breakup was al follows, I think it's almost the same today also. Legal-45 GK-45 English-25 Logical-25 Maths-10 There was no negative marking and the mode of paper was online and objective.

Placement Experience :

The placement in terms of the no. of people placed is average to be honest. This is due to the strict policy of the placement cell to only let students with a certain percentage and above to sit for placements, so the students have to fo their best. But the marks a very dicey as ILS is affiliated to SPPU. Pune University doesn't give much marks so the university topper is usually at 70%, but this is something even the firms know. ILS had the best law firms coming for placements, both for 0 day and across the year. A lot of firms do not come for placements due to their strict NLU policy, which is no fault of ILS. Otherwise the placement is decent. There is no training as such though, only a 2 session crash course sort of thing for preparation before the placements begin which is compulsory and chargeable by the trainers. The bad thing about the placement is hat it's not free. Yes, the college charges Rs. 15000 for the placements without any guarantee of being placed. This again is up to the student, if he/she wishes to sit. When it comes to Interhships, the placement cell co-ordinates internship from tier 1 firms to even young practicing lawyers. So there is a variety of internships offered. For the joining the cell there is a one time fee of Rs. 500 charged. I myself have got a few Internships from college and they were good as well. How much one can make of an opportunity/Internship is again dependant on the student.

College Events :

ILS has a variety of events around the year, but they're mostly Intra-college. There are cultural activities, a four day fest called legal ease which is like a break at the end of every year. Though it aint that big and there are small events and games for the students to have fun. So if you have your friends around it's pretty much fun. We also have a drama fest which is a one day event. ILS also has Co-curricular activities around the year. There is a national debating competition organized by the debating society. Intra-college qualifier for various moots and other ADR competitions including mock trial competition.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The college fee is very nominal and affordable, just around 50-55 thousand. The fee structure provides a proper breakup of fee charged. The mode of paymis through net banking/online/DD, Tye additional charge is standard as per the mode one opts for. ILS does not have management quota. It has NRI quota though. The hostel fee is expensive and can range from 1.75-2.5 L/ year for girls which includes food. The hostel is not compulsory though so other cheaper options can be availed outside the College. A no. of PG/hostel/flats are available as there are a lot of Colleges around ILS. For guys the hostel fee is around 60-70 thousand per year, but this does not include food. Again cheaper and sometimes better options are available outside the College as hostel is not compulsory.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I haven't. Although some scholarships are available but they are only for SC/ST/OBC and are available through university website.

Campus Life :

The gender ratio is good and balanced. There aren't any such dorm parties but one can always chill with their friends on hostel rooms. Various workshops are organised round the yeat by the respective societies(there are many), they're educational only. There is a lot of reservation for Maharashtra students (85%) and only 24 seats are available for outside Maharashtra student's. So culture is mostly tilted towards marathi but the college celebrates and gives holidays for all major festivals of all religions. The college tries to balance the culture and does no partiality. There are a lot of politicians and former judges( including come chief justices' of India) from ILS. Students from ILS can be found in every sphere of ranging from Law firms to practising lawyers to judges to even politicians. The alumni base is very good although there is no proper platform for current students to connect with the Alumni. When it comes to economic status, the students belong to all sorts of economic groups and most of them come from average middle class families.

Hostel Facilities :

For the first 2 years I did as I belonged to another state and didn't know much about the city. From 3rd year onwards i opted for a flat on sharing basis. The college hostel has twin and triple sharing rooms. The food is better than average. You get breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. There is no dinner on sundays. The in time is 8:30 pm for weekdays and 9:30 for sundays. There is also a common TV room, a study room with 3 computers, but it's only in the girls hostel. For PG the range is starting from 3000 and goes upto 10,000 a month depending on location, how near or far away from college. There are a lot of PG/hostels outside college which are affordable and good/safe.

Alumni/Alumna :

The senios are very helpful and fun too. The alumni based as a mentioned earlier is just amazing. The legacy fo our college can be found in every spehere. Since the college timings as very less the individuals get a lot of extra time to concentrate on other competetive exams like UPSC and Judicial services. Even a lot of students pursue CA and CS along with regular college. Hence te alumni network is very strong but there is no proper platform to connect with them.

Admission :

I got in through MH-CET, the exam was held for the first time in 2016, which was also the year I got in. Since the exam was first time it was held in June, 2016. There were a lot of technical problems at their end. Mh-CET is conducted for all law colleges across Maharashtra. All such difficulties have now been solved and every year the exam takes place around May and the sessions starts around July-August.

Faculty :

ILS has a entire range of faculty, from the best of teacher's that India has to offer, to the most average ones. Since it's 90+ years old, some of the teachers are extremely good and most knowledgeable in their respective feilds. There are also new teachers who have just started their career but are qualified, well most of them are. Most importantly it is for the students to make the best of the facilities available to them. It the students don't take good efforts, the teachers wouldn't go out of their way to help them either. Which is very fair according to me.

Placement Experience:

Placements of the college are okay. Not very high and not very low, it is at a good point which can be improved and be higher. From 3rd year the college provides for internship opportunities in many big law firms. The avg package may be around 6-8 lakhs and the highest may be around 15-17 lakhs but it fluctuates every year. Companies like ELP, SAM, trilegal, Cyril amarchand mangaldas,AZB patners, etc have offered packages to many students. There is no exact data available for exact % of students placed or offered made. I plan to go in litigation after my degree.

Last year last semester students were eligible for the campus placement program. So many companies are visited in College like Mahindra. HDFC bank. And local companies. Also, the opportunity to practice in local city court for under senior advocate. Offer is like a legal advisor. etc. The average package is like 2 to 6 lakhs per year. And the highest is 8 lakhs. 40 to 45 percent of students get placement. My plan after degree I chose to practice under a senior advocate.

Placement Experience:

The college is known for campus placements in every sector especially corporate and practices at the Hon'ble High Courts and the apex Supreme Court of India. Many also opt for going into the judiciary and become High Courts and Supreme Judges. Many legal luminaries and stalwarts including former Chief Justice of India Y.V. Chandrachud and late Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh are an alumnus of the college. The companies usually come for recruitment in the final year of the course i.e, the 3rd year or the sixth semester to be eligible for placements. The college also provides pre-placement training. Law students are not recruited to placements, they enhance their skills participating in national and international moot courts, arbitration and mediation competitions across the globe. Various law firms which visit are Khaitan and Co., Mindtree, Mulla and Craig and many other reputed organizations. The highest placement is around 13 LPA. 70% placements.
