Pooja Prakash's Review On College Of Architecture Trivandrum - [CAT], Thiruvananthapuram

Course Curriculum Overview :

This course curriculum is spread across and can be hectic due to its submissions and worksheets lined up. Students have to present their designs in front of jury and towards the end of this 5 years course, they've to write a thesis as prescribed by the college.

Placement Experience :

There's a compulsory internship programme that the students have to undertake in their 4th year of study. The stipend for it may vary depending on the firm. Also, the college takes care of placement of students.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

B.arch course can be a bit expensive. The total college fee incurred for 5 years is around Rs. 325000. However, there are many other expenses that students have to bear which can sum up to be very costly.

Campus Life :

Various sports events to develop the competitive streak in students, self defense classes so that female students learn defense techniques and also various art and cultural workshops are organized by the college.

Hostel Facilities :

The college has hostel accommodation. However, it can't hold a lot of people. The hostel has all amenities such as badminton court, gym, kitchen, ironing facility, food, dining hall, etc, to make the stay better.

Admission :

Student should've qualified his 1+2 or its equivalent with maths as a subject and should've scored an aggregate of 50%. He also should've obtained a valid NATA score to be eligible for admission in this college for this course.

Faculty :

The faculty of the college is well educated and an expert in their field of study. Many have a PhD in their respective subject and hence they've extensive knowledge with regards to the same. Also, they are friendly and always try to help out students.

Typically, architecture programs start with foundational courses that cover architectural history, theory, and basic design principles. These lay the groundwork for understanding the discipline.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Have a good course curriculum that will take us to a level where we think we should learn more and we will be ready to seek knowledge to learn more and more about the topics. They won't spoon-feed us just give us a base. The syllabus is completed on time.

As the faculties are practicing architects, we are introduced to relevant methods of problem solvings. In terms of climate, structure and all we are introduced to new softawares every semester. Also every semester has a major project that is based on a real problem within a real site.

I feel like some of the subjects exam duration can be a little more because I think we can have a little more time in drafting and everything, and also can bring new techniques and practices in this field to the curriculum. The exams are held semester-wise.

The college provides plenty of placements for the students as the college has years of experience. The highest package for placement in engineering is 36 LPA and average for architecture is 12 LPA. Almost 80 percent of students get placed every year,The rest pursue for higher studies. Students who pass out from the institution are given consideration due to its prestige.

Architecture is a tough and time taking course, the syllabus fine in the first three years but later on it becomes hectic. Maybe the syllabus can be reduced and I feel that five years is too long for architecture degree.

I don't knw much about placements as I am a 1year now. But our seniors are getting placed with a decent salary. The highest a senior got place was for 12L per annum. But the average is much low as the course offers less .
