Remarks :
One of the few old fashioned b schools, in which remains the board room where IIM calcutta was first designed. The old world charm remains with adjustments to meet the new world curriculum
Course Curriculum Overview :
It is a 2 year full time degree course and has a semester exam structure with very highly qualified faculty. Hands on industry visit is also there. The pedigree of Calcutta university degree is something to be proud of as it is one of the only B schools giving an MBA degree and not a PGDM degree as it is affiliated to a university. The curriculum is more theoretical than practical.
Placement Experience :
The placement record is very good and internship is part of the curriculum after the end of 2nd semester. A placement cell with students and teachers coordinates everything which keeps transparency. Internships are provided by the college. Majority of them are paid internship too.
College Events :
Paradigm an yearly meet with alumni, being the oldest b school of india, our alumni base is huge and more often than not the base for recruitment Managerial yearly business meet with games and seminar and guest lectures. Entrepreneurs yearly competition for budding entrepreneurs and many more.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Compared to other b schools it is comparitively low on 2014 16 it was approximately 6 lakhs for 2 years, The fees are to be paid on a semester basis and except this there are a few additional exam fees which are not at all exorbitant and this needs to be paid directly to calcutta university
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I did not opt for any loan or neither did I have any scholarship. Though some scholarships are there but it need to be found out
Campus Life :
Gender ratio for our batch was 2:1 for boys: girls. The college boasts of one of the biggest library of the city and there is table tennis in common room and also sports events including all departments. No politics at all around campus and campus life is not thourilling given it's not residential but still enjoyable
Hostel Facilities :
No. The boys hostel is by the college building and it's not magnificent given it's a very old campus but sufficient and not very expensive. Given the college is situated at the heart of the city. PG, mess etc are also easy to find
Alumni/Alumna :
Given the oldest b school, we have a huge alumni base and a specially event with them is organised every year and more often than not this becomes a source for placement
Admission :
A government college with comparitively lower fees than other B schools and average CTC more than fees. So ROI is really good. A moderate percentile in CAT and a good interview should ensure admission. Steps 1. One must take CAT 2. Keep an eye on iiswbm.edu or any national newspaper and get the form and fill it up, online option is there too. 3. Submit form and wait for GD and PI call and then shortlisted candidates go for admission
Faculty :
Given a government institution, it has highly educated and renowned faculty. We had more than 20 odd lecturers thouroughout our course. Some of the professors had books published which we used as guide books. Doctor APJ Abdul Kalam had also visited us for a seminar/lecture.
