Entrance Preview :

BITS HD entrance conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, scored around 138/450. Opted Pilani over Goa or Hyderabad campuses because of reputation.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course curriculum was specially designed to be application oriented. Practice School program gives you an upper hand over other institutes, when you enter the corporate world. Almost 50% subjects are electives. You can opt for courses from different departments as well. A lot of freedom in this area.

Internships Opportunities :

I did not opt for internship (practice school), instead, I did my thesis.But many of my colleagues did practice school. Their experiences have been good. Almost 80% students were absorbed. Stipends were in the range of INR 8000-30000.Companies: Skoda, SKF, Dessault Systems etc

Placement Experience :

50% students were placed on campus, remaining got a pre-placement offer from practice school companies. Packages ranged from 4.5 LPA to 16 LPA.Companies: GE, Safran, Mahindra, Shell, Dessault Systems etc.

College Events :

BITS is known for its events. Most of these events are the best events in North India. A lot of participation from DU.Following are the events:Oasis, TechBazaar, Rocktaves, Spark etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

BITS is expensive. Be prepared. Fees per semester is more than INR 1,00,000! But if you're willing to work as a teaching assistant, you could get a 40% fee waiver.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

You can avail a loan facility from any nationalized bank, BITS tag makes the process easier.

Campus Life :

Asking a mechanical engineering student about the gender ratio is like asking a a gender ratio of men's cricket team! We had 1 girl in intake of 48.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostels rooms have high speed internet and about 1.5 TB share on LAN with about 10 MBPS download speed. I could spend a lifetime there! Mostly, students get a single occupancy rooms, except for the first semester, where you have to share a huge room with

External Expense : Rs.2000 - Rs.4000

Alumni/Alumna :

One of the strongest alumni networks in the country. Lot of funding, scholarships etc from BITAA (BITS Alumni Association).

Exam Structure :

Its a continuous evaluation system. Includes various assignments, quizzes, mid-sem exam, projects and final exam. Usually, most master's courses did not have any labs.

Faculty :

Some profs. were great, some were just okay. Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani has started aggressive movement towards recruiting faculty with PhDs from abroad. We will definitely see even better faculty in future.
