Remarks :
My college life has been good so far in these 4 years and my journey was indeed memorable and eventful. The college management is good and helpful though sometimes there seems to be a disconnect among the non-teaching staff and departments. Overall the college is good and is growing each passing year. My advice to future students would be to make the most of the opportunities that come their way.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I am from the 2016-2020 batch and the curriculum since then has undergone a lot of changes for the CS/IT Department. A lot of new subjects have been introduced that meets the demand of the industry such as Machine Learning, Data Science and so on. We didn't have these subjects in 2016-20 curriculum but workshops on IoT, Deep Learning, Blockchain have helped us get familiar with the latest technologies. Our college has also partnered with Google Cloud and we got to learn about Google Cloud Platform and prepare ourselves to be Associate Cloud Engineers. We've also had a couple of industrial visits to Persistent Systems and Tech Mahindra. We also undertook 6 months internship as part of the academic curricula in the industries which helped us gain professional and technical skills and knowledge and also helped us a lot in placements.
Placement Experience :
A lot of good companies like Microsoft, Google and Amazon visited our college campus. Most companies visited for CS/IT and Electronics students. Microsoft hired for Consultant role, Google hired for IT support role and Amazon hired for a non-technical role (Product Compliance Associate). We had many private product-based firms such as Continuum, Persistent Systems, Book My Show and IBM who hired for Software Engineers. We also had a Japanese company hire for a developer role. I got placed in Continuum Managed Solutions. The entire process was simple and straightforward. The placement head shared the emails for the company hiring and we shared our consents and resume. The students then underwent the hiring process at the college which was different from company to company. The placement record for CS/IT was good with almost 80% of students getting placed. The placement record for other branches was lukewarm. The college prepared us for the placement through the 3-day workshop.
College Events :
We have annual cultural fest called Reverb and technical fest called Techfest. Each branch holds it owns Techfest events like CS/IT has Techela. Both of these festivals are held for 2 days. The fests are enjoyable and almost provide great opportunities for students to showcase their talent. We have annual sports events as well called Prota, which provides the sports enthusiasts to participate and sweat it out in the stadium.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
SIT, Pune is a private institute and the annual fees ranges are approximately 2.3 lakhs which could be expensive for most and feasible for some others. The mode of payment is both online and offline. We have around Rs. 25,000 as a security deposit. Additional fees will include hostel and mess, which is around 1.0-1.5 lakhs annually.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I didn't apply for any scholarship opportunities but there are scholarships to the topper of each batch.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is balanced though there are fewer females in Civil and Mechanical branches. Most of the students are friendly and there is no discrimination on the basis of anything. Everyone gets along with each other nicely. I have not currently opted for a hostel but I did live in a hostel in 1st and 2nd year of my degree. The hostel life is good. We have 3 shared rooms available for students. Although, the accommodation for students is first to come on the first basis and the number of rooms available is less than the number of students. Boys don't get to enjoy hostel life past 2nd year due to shortage of rooms and only boys in 3rd and 4th year live in rented flats in Sus-Pashan and Baner. New hostel rooms are being built and may provide more accommodation in future.
Alumni/Alumna :
The seniors are friendly and helpful to their juniors. They are easily approachable through LinkedIn and respond to text messages as well. One can always seek their advice on anything from academics to placements and they are always ready to help. Some alumni have also conducted buddy workshops and training for their juniors.
Admission :
I was applying to various colleges for admission and got to know about SIT through a newspaper ad. I had known Symbiosis to be a good college for their MBA and management programs and was not much aware of their engineering institute. I researched about the college through various sources such as their website, reviews on Collegedunia and Quora and decided to apply for admission to SIT, Pune. The admission process was simple and straightforward. I gave my entrance test in May 2016 and got my results within a week or two. I was called for the counselling process on 5th June. The entire process took half a day.
Faculty :
We have a mix of good and not-so-good faculty, just like any other college. Overall the faculties have good academic background. The professors in the CS/IT department are quite good and some of them adopt interesting pedagogies to teach the students and make the subjects interesting. The lectures are held on a regular basis and the entire
