Remarks :
Government Engineering College, Thrissur (GECT) is one of the best options if one wants to explore his talents and nurture them, and at the same time, have a great campus life, and excel academically.There is no ragging in the college and this is made sure by the antiragging cell setup by the college Union. So, it each student gets a ragging free campus, and no juniors have to be afraid of their seniors.
Course Curriculum Overview :
It is a 4 year course divided into 8 semesters, each semester spanning 5 months. There are small break after each semester. Exams are conducted by the University at the end of every semester and two series tests are conducted by the college during each semester.
Placement Experience :
There is a placement cell in the college, that coordinates all the placements in the college. A lot of IT companies as well as core companies for each branch come to hire students every year. Internships are not provided by the college.
College Events :
Dyuthi is the main techfest conducted by the college Union, and is a National level Multifest. It has technical as well as cultural programs and competitions and each day ends with a colorful cultural night. Thrissur Motor Show, conducted by the Mechanical Engineering branch of the college is South India's largest Motor Show. Also, there are fests conducted by each departments.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure includes the fees for each semester which will be around 7000, and the initial fees such as PTA fees, College bus fees, exam fees, etc. to be paid while joining the college. The fee structure is very simple and can be afforded by almost everyone.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There are various scholarships offered by the college for students who have had good marks in their Higher Secondary education, and for students who have high grades during the first few semesters. Students can know of such scholarships from the Group tutor assigned to each class.
Campus Life :
There are a lot of clubs, encompassing arts and technology working in the College. There is a quiz club called Gyanartha, music club Bansuri, Dance club DHD, Innovation centre called IDEATOR, and a lot more. There is a Fablab, and a Robotics lab in the college, where students can take help to do their projects. Moreover, the college has an IEEE Students Branch and ISTE Chapter. There are also student parties such as SFI,KSU,MSF, etc. In terms of sports, the college has a free gym, and a huge outdoor ground. Sports events are also hosted from time to time.
Hostel Facilities :
I am not a hosteller, but I can share about the hostel facilities. There are separate hostels for Men and Women. The hostel fees is very low, about 600 per month per room which is shared by 2 students. Food is provided by the hostel which has a separate fees( about 3000 per month ). Admission to the hostel is based upon a student's distance to his/her home and the cgpa till the application date. There are many other private hostels too outside the college.
Alumni/Alumna :
There I a very strong Alumini network for the College, and it is because of them that most of the companies that come to the college for hiring. Also, Alumini helps in funding projects and other Requirements such as during Dyuthi and other fests.
Admission :
I got admission in the college using my Kerala entrance(KEAM) rank and my plus two marks. The allotment process is done by the government, and we are supposed to give the various options that we want.
Faculty :
The faculty here comprises of people who are very much deep rooted in their own fields of study, and most of them have a PhD. They are very much cooperative and encourage students to do projects with social relevance.
