A brief description of IIT Kharagpur

Remarks :

Positive: There is a motto "kgp Ka tempo high hai" that brings all the kgpians together. Ragging is completely banned. Negative: There used to be some drop outs from college due to depression but now all the students are very carefully monitored and counselling centers are introduced to lesser the number of such students.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is decent. The exam structure is as follows, Total marks = 100 out of which Mid sem exams weigh 30 marks, End sem exams weigh 50 marks and TA(class tests, assignments) marks carries 20 marks.

Placement Experience :

When it comes to Internship and Placements our college contacts lot of companies and brings them for hiring us for campus selections. Every year the number of companies increase and the number of students who get placed are around 80-85%. The remaining are either waiting their chance or looking for further studies. And lot of students also get a PPO offer from the companies where they have done their Internship.

College Events :

There are many events held in our college. At anytime you can see some event going on in the college. The main events are ILLUMINATION, SPRING FEST, KSHITIZ, GREAT STEP, MECHANICA. There is one event attached to one department. The unique event that is held only at iit Kharagpur is Illumination also called as illu. All the students of a hostel build their own chatayi which is lighted with diyas that represents a theme. The process starts 40days in advance and every student work hard in building the great theme. The spring fest and kshitiz are top cultural and technical fests respectively that are held in the January.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure used to be feasible for the batches before 2016. From 2016 batche onwards it has doubled. Currently the fee structure per semester is 1,00,000 rupees for tuition fee and around 35,000 for all the other expenses like hostel seat rent, food, water, electricity, internet, sports, student welfare, films etc.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Yes, there are there banks(SBI, PNB, syndicate) inside the college and offers less interest education loans to the students. There are several scholarships being offered based on different requirements. The main scholarships are MCM(merit cum means) and INSPIRE. They are offered based on parents annual income. They almost reimburses the whole tuition fee amount.

Campus Life :

All the students exercise their extra curricular activities in the general championship that is held year long with different types of competitions in technical, sports, social and cultural. The sports cover almost all the main indoor and outdoor games and judged by experienced and certified sportsmen in respective fields. The laboratories are well designed and all the experimental equipment is available for demonstrating.

Hostel Facilities :

All the hostels are atleast 20-30 year old buildings except a very few which are of 5-10 years. But these are very fine spacious for a student life. The rooms are wide enough and there are different outdoor game courts for every hostel. There are lan ports and WiFi routers for internet purpose. There are water purifiers, washing machines too. I rate 8/10 for the infrastructure and facilities.

Alumni/Alumna :

There is a SWG(student welfare group) team in which 4th year students mentors the freshers of thier department. The help and support in giving information about the academics and career goals. The alumni network for IIT Kharagpur is so long. There are many passed out graduates who support in the development of the college. They help in great part for contacting the companies through them and inviting the companies to the on-campus placements.

Admission :

First I cleared IIT-JEE Mains examination and then i got shortlisted to appear for IIT-JEE advanced examination and cleared it. Then through the online JOSAA counselling i kept my choices and was allotted with ECE in IIT Kharagpur.

Faculty :

The faculty members are highly qualified. They come from different parts and almost everyone teaches out of their passion. They share their experiences and knowledge with us all. There are some very friendly professors as well as very strict ones. There are teaching assistants for every professor and are available for doubts clarification to the students all the time.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.
