How good is biotech at BIT, Mesra?

IP
Indrani Pahari Posted On : April 19th, 2021
BIT Mesra

I would like to share the experience of one of my cousins, who studied biotech at BIT Mesra.

It all started after he secured a decent rank in his AIEEE exam and through the All-India quota got admission in BE- Biotechnology course, offered by BIT Mesra.

In the first year of his engineering, students studied the same subjects irrespective of their branches. At the end of his first year, he was quite confident that he had studied hard and cleared all subjects without any problems.

After getting into his second year on the first day in the department he got the reality check. From that day onwards, he doesn’t advise people to join Biotechnology, here at BIT Mesra.

Some vital points about Biotechnology, BIT Mesra:

  • The lab equipment is world-class but none of them truly work. If some of them do the students are not allowed to operate them.
  • The class schedule is quite hectic, students will have classes throughout the day, 5 days a week.
  • For the next 3 years, same things are taught to you under different subject titles. It's like every semester.

So from the experience, I shared with you gives you in and out of the field. Now, it is your choice whether you want to get enrolled in the particular field or not.

How is the biotech department of BIT Mesra?

AG
Ayantika Ghose Posted On : February 19th, 2021
BIT Mesra (2019)

The Biotech Department of BIT Mesra is average. If you want to join a core company after completing your degree, there are better alternatives. Maximum placement at the institute is in IT and Analytics. Among the companies that visit the campus for pavement, Nestle is the only one that is close to your area of interest.

Here are some other facts that you need to know about the Biotech department.

  • The department has great faculty and infrastructure. Despite that, you will see many students consulting a lot of books for their course-work, as it is not close to the concept of engineering that they had in mind.
  • As mentioned before, very few core companies visit the campus placement. One of my friends pursued Biotech from BIT Mesra and during her time Biotech students were allowed to sit for only a few consultancies as well.

There are alumni of this institute who secure good off-campus placement offers on their own. So, getting a good job offer depends on your effort. This is a brief picture of BIT Mesra. The final decision is up to you.

Btech student at IIT Bombay

I am a second-year student of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay. I think you should opt for Aerospace Engineering at our institution. You should especially choose this branch if the area of research interests you as it is a research-focused department.

The Aerospace Engineering branch of IIT Bombay consistently performs well in placements. The highest package in 2023 was INR 1.68 CPA, while the median package was INR 19.63 LPA for B.Tech Aerospace Engineering students of IIT Bombay.

Some of the prominent recruiters from the department are- Rolls Royce, Boeing India, Akasa Air, Airbus, etc. After graduation, you can work in aircraft design, or as a technical officer, or in some other related field.

Here are some details of the Aerospace branch at IIT Bombay:

Food technology from UICET Chandigarh will be a better option for you. It has better scope in the future as compared to other streams.

The reason for choosing UICET is as follows:

  1. Placements: Around 70% of students got placed in Food Technology. The highest CTC offered was INR 10 LPA, the average CTC was INR 5.5 LPA and the lowest CTC was INR 3.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies like HPCL, Reliance, and Pepsi came for the campus placements. More than 50 companies visited the campus.
  2. Brand name: This college has got a great brand name because UICET is a part of Punjab University and is the oldest department while the UIET is a newly founded department. You will find a lot of alumni in this college for better guidance who are from the food technology field.
  3. Research work: This college also provides research work to undergraduate students. You can take the research work from the assistant professors. Many students do their research from outside organizations as well.
  4. Fees: The annual fees at UICET are INR 18000 per annum as this is a government-funded course. If you study biotechnology from UIET then the fees would be INR 80,000 per annum.

Food tech students are even getting preferences in IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Lucknow. Most of the students from this college are also going to Canada to pursue MS.

Is biotechnology in UIET Chandigarh any good?

TS
Tanisha Sinha Posted On : May 31st, 2021
ECE from UIET, Chandigarh

Your willingness to pursue this particular stream should be the sole reason you opt for it. It should not be based on anyone’s opinion. Every stream is unique in its own way.

Biotechnology is a tough choice as there are not many opportunities available to its students in India. If you are expecting good placement opportunities after finishing this course from UIET, then you will be disappointed.

But, if you want to go for research work after this then it is no doubt the perfect choice for you. Since not many go for this subject, you would have an upper hand. You will find students opting for this stream just because they didn’t their desired branch.

Here’s a brief overview of the Biotechnology course offered at the institute.

Average CTC

7 LPA

Course Fee

3.26 lakhs

Biotechnology in UIET would be a good option only if you’re willing to go for a master’s or any other research work as the placements here are not even satisfactory.

Is biotech better than mechanical engineering?

RY
Rohan Yadav Posted On : April 5th, 2024
B.Tech from IIT Delhi

While choosing an engineering branch you should consider your career goals, interests and inclination. Both these branches have different scope and objectives. Mechanical engineering deals with designing and manufacturing mechanical systems, and Biotech combines Biology and Technology for development in areas like healthcare, agriculture, and environmental conservation. It is important for you to go through the curriculum of both these branches to decide which one better suits your interests and long term goals.

Mechanical will offer you job opportunities in the automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, and manufacturing sector. After Biotech you can work in the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, and agricultural sector. It is up to you to analyze the potential and market demand for both these branches.

If you are skilled in Maths, Physics, Problem-solving, and Design, you can opt for Mechanical. On the other hand, Biotechnology requires an understanding of Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Lab Techniques, and Data Analysis. Biotechnology is constantly making new innovations in fields like genetic engineering, drug development, and bioprocessing.

This choice is highly subjective, and completely depends upon your own interest. Both these fields are making rapid progress in their own manner. You have to ultimately decide which one is more in line with your own aspirations.
