How is instrumentation and control in Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal?

KS
Kalyani Shankar Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

The Instrumentation and Control Engineering branch at MIT Manipal is a multifaceted branch dealing with various subjects related to Electrical, Electronics, and mechanical. Students are taught about sensors, transducers, electrical and mechanical instruments, microcontrollers, control systems, process automation, etc.

The branch is good and its labs are equipped with modern instruments. The faculty is decent and the placement scenario seems very promising.

One of my friends recently completed his BTech in instrumentation and control and gave me an active idea of the placement scenario of the branch. Out of the entire batch around 95% of students got placed. The highest package stood at INR 20 LPA and the average stood at INR 10 LPA while the lowest was recorded at INR 5 LPA. The star recruiters included Mercedes, Flipkart, Amazon, and Nvidia among many others.

Overall, this branch is great if you are interested in this field.

Here is all the information about ICE at NSUT Delhi-

  1. Faculty - The ICE faculty is a mixed bag. There are some teachers who teach really well and their classes are enjoyable. However, there are some strict ones as well. Some do not care about their subject or the students at all.
  2. Coursework - The ICE coursework is fine and gives you ample time to pursue your interests.
  3. Infrastructure - NSUT Delhi has undergone infrastructural changes recently. This is because it has gained University status. The college library is centrally air-conditioned. ICE shares most of its labs with the Electronics and Computers branches. The labs are well-equipped.
  4. Placements - Placements are less as compared to COE/IT branches. Few companies offer jobs to ICE students, especially for Core job profiles. Generally, DRs and people with exceptional profiles are placed in ICE. Internship offers are also less for this department.
  5. Research- ICE students are actively involved in research work. The ICE faculty encourages students to participate in research. Students also work under DTU, IIT Delhi, and IIIT Delhi teachers. ICE students work on around 3-4 projects while at NSUT Delhi.
  6. Scope - ICE students drift from their core stream to a programming job or an MBA. Some also prepare for an MS.

This is all the information about the ICE branch at NSIT Delhi.

In order to determine the right branch for yourself, you will have to go through a list of questions related to these branches individually.

Production Engineering:

  • Are you okay with drilling a hole, shaping a metal part with a lathe, or polishing a metal piece for microscopic inspection
  • Can you handle distorted schedules?
  • Do you have an interest in drawing and designing?

If yes, then go for Production Engineering.

Instrumentation and control engineering:

  • Can you withstand extreme peer pressure, and strict professors.
  • Can you give multiple internals before semester exams
  • Can you handle extremely long lab sessions?

If yes, then go for Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Vishwakarma Institute of Technology

Yes, VIT Pune is definitely a great choice for Instrumentation engineering in Maharashtra, then you are left with a few choices. In Pune, COEP is best.

  • VIT is an autonomous institute so has a well-structured and updated curriculum. semester a mini project is compulsory to impart technical knowledge.
  • VIT Pune organizes great Technical, Cultural, and Social activities.
  • The academic ambiance is great with minimal workload and supportive staff. The lab facilities are great too.
  • The Department has built relations with instrumentation companies.
  • Excellent internship opportunities are provided. Placements depend on your marks.

So VIT Pune is an excellent choice for Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

What are the chances of getting into coding after joining ICE in NIT Jalandhar? Do companies visiting NITJ allow ICE students to sit in on-campus placement?

SJ
Shreyansh Jain Posted On : December 7th, 2022
B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Agartala (Graduated 2019)

The first thing you need to understand is that your chances of getting into coding do not depend on your branch.

NIT Jalandhar has an extensive coding environment and almost every student irrespective of their branch wants to learn to code. It also has some amazing clubs like DSC-NIT to help you recognize your interests in coding and other fields like Cloud Computing, Web Development, Android Development & Machine learning.

At NITJ, you will learn coding in your first year only as a part of your 1st-year course curriculum as CP (Computer Programming).

As far as the ICE branch is concerned, it’s the most coveted branch. So if you have joined it you are very lucky. The best part about this branch is its Data Structures & Algorithms course. It is a completely technical course that teaches the most important aspects of coding.

Placements

You don’t need to worry about the on-campus placements. Everyone with

  • a good CGPA (7.5+)

  • good skills like coding,

will easily secure a good package. Placements are not restricted to just a few branches. Students from every branch can sit for placements. So don’t worry about that and just study hard.

Which one to choose: NSIT's ICE (instrumentation and control eng) OR IIIT UNA CSE?

SA
Simran Arora Posted On : April 1st, 2021
Studied CS from NSIT (2019)

Firstly, you should know that IIIT UNA is a new college and although it has the IIIT tag, it hasn't been ranked by any esteemed Ranking platforms like NIRF. Its classes are also facilitated by NIT Hamirpur's faculty and the campus and faculty are nice.

As far as NSIT is concerned, it ranks #76 on the NIRF ranking portal for engineering and has a better location in Delhi than Hamirpur, because of the facilities and professional opportunities available.

Here are some more pointers to help you understand better -

  • If your interest lies in the program rather than the institute, then go for CSE. Although first reflect on the placement scenario of IIIT UNA, whether they receive good companies or not; if the package is satisfactory, and if speedy placements are facilitated after the course is over.
  • When you take a look at NSIT, then you should know that you'd be able to build a good career as a software engineer with the ICE program, but the management will be a little difficult because of the delicate balance between coursework and developing your programming skills.
  • Most ICE alumni are now pursuing MBA or working other non-technical jobs. For non-tech, NSIT offers better opportunities.

Here's a table on the placement scenario-
