Scoring a good CGPA at BIT Mesra exams is difficult because of the absolute grading system and strict corrections. To maintain a decent CGPA, you must give equal importance to your lab and theory exams.

Here are some tips for you-

To score high in lab-

  1. Make yourself visible to the teacher by regularly attending the lab and performing well in at least some of the practicals.
  2. Perform well in your viva and lab practicals. The objective tests hardly carry any value, or the teachers are too lazy to evaluate them and generate your final credit.
  3. Try to answer creatively and confidently during viva, even if you don’t know an answer in complete detail.

To score high in theory-

  1. Make a clear study plan, and don’t study each and every thing. Study the modules that will allow you to answer 5 questions in the exam.
  2. Don’t mug up, study topic wise, and analyze previous year question papers.
  3. First answer the questions that you know very well. This will build your credibility.
  4. Don’t leave any question. Try to answer all 5 of them. Sometimes manipulated answers fetch good marks.
  5. Try to get a little creative with subjective questions. Draw relevant diagrams and write equations. Graphs, diagrams and equations always enhance the answer.
  6. Write in a neat, well structured and point-wise manner. Don’t be lazy in putting down additional details relevant to the question.

Be regular to your classes and submit your projects on time. NCC and NSS will fetch you an extra credit per semester. Try to participate in them, and attend their sessions regularly. PT and sports are even better, they’ll have a positive impact on your credits.

Follow these tips and you’ll score a decent CGPA in your B.Tech, at BIT Mesra.

I know someone who started with 5 pointers and 3 backs but managed to secure a good placement after his course. Here are some things, which my friend followed to do so.

  • Have a sense of the subject and go thoroughly over the syllabus and attempt to form a conceptual picture of what you will study in the semester. It may at first seem hard, but it will require some time and interest. Learn about these subjects with actual life implementations.
  • Know where to begin with. Be mindful of the important texts, notes on which you have to study, etc. The best way to do this is to ask the seniors. If you get it right, then you can save time.
  • Try and get the previous year’s question papers. It may be not always helpful, but the majority of questions are selected from the last two or three years.
  • If you can’t memorize 5-6 modules per subject, particularly for 3-4 papers in a row. Try to prepare for fewer modules really well.
  • If you have a tendency to go deep into a single topic and have difficulty following tutorials you can solve tutorial sheets. Also, try to make notes on your own, it will help you understand the topics better. If possible try to teach someone else, this helps a lot.

Try to cut out the things that waste your time like Facebook, Gaming, TV series, etc.
