My friend was preparing for NIMCET and got AIR 13. She had decided on a detailed strategy to crack the exam. She gave the highest preference to Math, which carried a weightage of 60%. A few tips from her detailed strategy have been mentioned below

  • Try to encourage yourself by starting with the basic topics you are good at and then moving towards the challenging ones. You can start with topics like Quadratic Equation, Inequalities, Progression, Determinant, Matrices, etc .
  • Once you are proficient in these, move to the more challenging ones like Binomial Theorem, Real Functions, Sets, Relations, Functions, Vector, etc. You can study these topics through books or online resources.
  • Next, complete all the topics of Trigonometry and only then switch to Calculus. After calculus, you can start studying topics like Coordinator Geometry, Probability, P&C, LCD, etc
  • If you face trouble solving books like R.D. can solve the 11th or 12th class RD Sharma or any NCERT book first. This will strengthen your basics.
  • Next comes Reasoning which has a weightage of 24% comprising the second most important part of this exam.
  • The only key to Reasoning is to Practice, Practice, and practice. The more you have practiced the lesser time you will take and the more accuracy you will gain.
  • Try to do both Math and Reasoning on the same day and don’t assign separate days. Work on multiple topics of Reasoning in a single day rather than sticking to one
  • After Reasoning come Computer and English which carries an equal weightage of 8%. For this you can rely on coaching like Elite Eduventures

In all, you need a well-structured plan, a dedicated attitude, and consistency to crack NIMCET!

Completed MCA from NIT Trichy in 2020

The level of competition in NIMCET is not high when compared to the competitiveness of other exams. The most important section of the exam is Mathematics as it contains 50 questions of 12 marks each. Try to focus on this section as it is rewarding.

One of my friends planned his score chart in the following manner:

Sections Scores
Mathematics 450+
Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning 180+
English 40+
Computer Awareness 50+

A score similar to this would be enough to get a good enough rank in the general category.

To prepare for Mathematics, you can practice Sets, Statistics, Matrices, Binomial theorem, determinants as they can be done in a short time.

  • There will be 2 questions in Definite and Indefinite Integral and 2 questions of Matrices and Determinants.
  • You may even come across 2 questions from Sets.
  • Other important topics are vector, probability, and 3D. In the last few years, about 10 questions from these topics are coming in the exams.
  • You will get probably 3 questions from the 3D section.

If you prepare yourself diligently for 3-4 months, you will be more than capable to crack NIMCET. Books from R.D. Sharma would be enough for preparing for the exams. In case of English, you just need to have basic aptitude knowledge.
