- SVNIT vs. NIT Jamshedpur: In terms of reputation among recruiters and society in general, SVNIT is a far better choice. NIT Jamshedpur although provides the NIT tag, still lacks a lot in terms of infrastructure and the official rankings are a testament to that.
- NIT Jamshedpur vs. NIT Surat: NIT Jamshedpur has witnessed exponential growth in the placement statistics over the past few years. Some have joined Work Applications in Singapore and Japan while some got a place in Amazon with a 20+ lacs package. NIT Surat also has a similar placement scenario so taking CSE at either NITs will offer similar job opportunities.

What are the drawbacks of NIT Jamshedpur?
Here are a few drawbacks of NIT Jamshedpur that the ex-students talk about
- Infrastructure: The reason NIT Jamshedpur is so poorly ranked is because of its poor infrastructure. However, the infrastructure is improving constantly and this can be reflected in the newly constructed Mega Hostels that provide single rooms to students. Other new facilities are being implemented.
- Location: Jamshedpur faces major location disadvantages due to the lack of air connectivity. Most recruiters refrain from visiting the campus because of these transport issues. However, an inactive airport here Sonari is rumored to start operating again. again.
- Attendance Policy: Although the institute has a policy of 75% attendance, students do not follow it and skip classes frequently. However, the new director has implemented strictness in this matter and now even last year students attend classes regularly.
So it can be concluded that most drawbacks of NIT Jamshedpur are being addressed and none of them hamper the academics to the point the institute's credibility needs to be questioned.

For civil engineering, what should be my preference order, NIT Agartala, NIT Jamshedpur, or BIT Mesra?
All the three colleges are good. However, according to me, NIT JSR and BIT Mesra are better than NIT Agartala. For a core Engineering branch though, NIT JSR is a better choice over BIT Mesra. So your preference order for Civil should be NIT JSR> BIT Mesra> NIT Agartala.
Here are a few comparison points between NIT JSR and BIT Mesra to helTithi agp you choose between the two-
- Academic Infrastructure- The infrastructure at BIT Mesra is better than NIT JSR. However, NIT JSR has a new academic building and the old academic building underwent renovation some time back.
- Hostel Infrastructure- The hostel infrastructure of NIT JSR is much superior with the rooms and galleries in very good condition.
- Placements- For core branches, the placements are a bit better at NIT JSR.
- The teacher-student ratio is better at BIT Mesra.
- BIT Mesra is a private college, so the maintenance of campus, classrooms, etc. is much better. However, its semester fees are much higher than NIT JSR.
- NIT JSR carries the ‘NIT’ tag which holds value if you go for your higher studies, and may also open more job opportunities for you.
- For CAT, UPSC, IES, GATE, etc. aspirants, NIT JSR has a lesser attendance pressure and allows more free time that you can then use for your preparation.
- Curriculum load- The curriculum load is more at BIT Mesra than NIT JSR.
- The girls:boys student ratio is better at BIT Mesra.
- The study environment is almost the same at both.
BIT Mesra is a better option for CSE. However, for a core branch, NIT JSR is a better choice. My brother chose Civil at NIT JSR over Civil at BIT Mesra and he did not regret his decision. Also, never choose an institution based off of NIRF rankings because they consider many factors, and many of them are irrelevant for you.
