The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.
The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.

Ultimately, the Metallurgy branch of NIT Surathkal has a decent scope. If you want to land a job after graduation, then the branch and even the institute do not matter. Your grades and skills come into play.
You won’t face any kind of dominance or bias studying at either college. The students are friendly and unless you provoke the other party, no one’s going to interfere in your business or harass you. It’s good to make friends belonging to diverse cultures rather than limiting yourself to certain cultural boundaries. Usually, IITs and NITs have very friendly seniors and peers and there isn’t ragging in any form.
Remember you are not here just to score a high grade or win medals. Rather, you are here to change your life and yourself and only learning from others' experiences will help you go a long way. So don’t worry and go for either NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal and make the most out of the available resources. Be empathetic and always think from a broader perspective. Only then can you attain new heights.

Additionally, it has a beautiful campus and a vibrant student community. NIT Surathkal seems to be a better option not just because of its reputation but also owing of its location. Here are some unique aspects of NIT Surathkal that make it better than other NITs
Overall, it is a great choice for students looking to pursue higher education at a top-tier NIT.
One of my friends recently joined NIT Surathkal and shared her experiences of studying at this college. During the orientation, the SJA was filled with students, profs, deans, parents, seniors, and many others. Surprisingly this was followed by a veg together on the beach, and she knew right then that this wasn’t an ordinary college and she was going to have the best college life.
It’s true that the infrastructure, hostels, and mess food aren’t at par with other NITs but she realized that all these things were secondary. What mattered was the abundance of opportunities she was getting and not to forget the serene beach view.
She along with her friends would leave for the classes at the last minute and mostly submit her assignments in time. She enjoyed a lot with her friends dancing and roaming around the campus or gossiping in the evenings sitting outside the sports complex. They would bunk the classes occasionally and play CS, and COD. She looked upon her seniors and faculties and respected them a lot. Overall, her life at NIT Surathkal was nothing like she expected before joining.
There are certain rules and regulations which are mandatory to be followed by the students at NIT Surathkal.
The library and laboratories of the college are open till 11:30 PM and any student can go there and use the equipment to complete their projects and assignments. Although there are different timings for certain places like the beach entry which closes by 6 PM and the sports complex which closes by 8 PM.
The campus is equipped with wifi routers which are available everywhere and there is also a swimming pool and different playgrounds for the students to play and enjoy.
The Chemical Engineering branch at NIT Surathkal isn’t well-known because of its obsolete curriculum and poor placement scenario. I hope you haven’t yet joined it but if you have known that there is no turning back. It’s better to start working hard to compensate for the poor branch than to sit and regret.
It’s better to opt for Chemical in Trichy or Warangal. Otherwise, you can study hard in the 1st year and opt for a branch change. Even if you fail to get CSE/IT, even civil and mining will do.
I have many friends who joined this department recently and all of them are regretting their decision big time. Some even call it the worst in the institution. So I will recommend you to go for Chemical in NIT Warangal instead.
I would like to highlight a few points in favor of choosing IT at NIT Surathkal-
