In what order would you rank MAMC, KGMU, AFMC, IMS-BHU, CMC & Grant Medical College?
I will try to answer your query and provide some additional information.
After the top most colleges- AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SGPGI, these are the colleges you should try for- Medical colleges in Delhi are the best choice. Out of these, MAMC is the most desirable. It is followed by VMMC, LHMC and UCMS. Then come the medical colleges in Mumbai. KEM is a top medical college, followed by Sion and Grant. Colleges of Kerala and Madras are at par with one another. But Madras Medical College is the best among these. AFMC and CMC Vellore are great for patients, but not so much for the students.
Thus, MAMC is a great choice. I do not possess much knowledge of KGMU and IMS BHU, so I haven’t talked about them.
What are the major differences between LHMC and MAMC?
Both LHMC and MAMC have a similar quality crowd and even the location is similar. In fact, LHMC is just 2 km away from MAMC. MAMC however, is nearer to the metro station.
LHMC takes postings seriously. The girls are given a lot of freedom so LHMC not being a co-ed hardly affects the quality of their campus life in any way. In fact, it makes it better because of the unimaginable freedom.
Both the colleges have a decent academic ambiance. LHMC is well-known for its OB-GYN and Pediatrics departments. Girls get a lot of hands-on experience and are trained excellently under the guidance of experienced faculty.
A true and literal comparison between these colleges can only be made after personally visiting colleges.
Which is better, MAMC Delhi or IMS BHU?
One of my cousins is a student at MAMC Delhi and here are a few highlights of the institute based on the experience she shared.
- Education: MAMC Delhi has an excellent academic ambiance that can even motivate the least interested ones.
- Location: It’s in close proximity to CP so you can visit cafés during your lunch break, have a sub, and come back. You can jog to the India Gate every morning which is also very close to the campus. Daryaganj is another famous place due to its Sunday book market.
- Connectivity : MAMC Delhi has great connectivity to tourist places like Kasol, Mussoorie, etc
- Extracurriculars: The college has excellent sports facilities like cricket, basketball, badminton, gym, swimming pool, etc
- Library: This is the best part of the college. MAMC Library is uniquely designed and will motivate you to become a nerd and spend your afternoons here.
- Campus life: The campus is small but the overall ambiance is quite friendly and gives you the best memories of your life.
- Reputation: MAMC enjoys a very good reputation and its Delhi University Quota in PG is another major perk that places it above IMS BHU.

How is the life of PG residents of DELHI university colleges namely MAMC, LHMC and UCMS?
The life of a PG resident of Delhi University colleges like MAMC, LHMC, and UCMS depends on the steam they belong to. For instance, LHMC OB-GYN and Paediatrics have the highest workload while the rest of the streams have relatively lesser workload.
Almost every stream has an equally high workload in MAMC be it Medicine, Surgery, Gyn, or Paediatrics. The heavy workload teaches the students to push their limits to achieve their goals. It trains them better and also imparts knowledge. Most MAMC graduates can handle any case confidently which even some consultants with an experience of more than 20 years find difficult to manage. UCMS on the other hand offers a moderate workload for all streams.
So, choosing MAMC will give you an all-rounded experience where you will gain maximum knowledge and experience. LHMC is a great choice if you are specifically interested in OB-GYN or Paediatrics only.
How is the hostel life in Maulana Azad Medical College?
Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) has 2 boys hostels for undergraduate students.
Old boys Hostel (OBH):
- The OBH is a very social place.
- You will have many friends who will act as your guides and advisors.
- There is a newly constructed reading room, a basketball court, a badminton court and a 24 hour canteen inside the hostel premises.
- The only flaw about this is its cleanliness.
- The rooms are small and the bathrooms are not well maintained at all.
- But the cleanliness also depends on the students residing. If they try to maintain their bit of cleanliness, it could still work out.
New Boys Hostel (NBH):
- The NBH, unlike the OBH, is a quiet place.
- All the rooms are for a single occupant.
- There is a reading room and a canteen in the hostel.
- The canteen closes down around 11PM and opens in the morning around 7AM.
- The rooms are more spacious and have balconies.
- This hostel is comparatively cleaner.
Therefore, OBH is a more social place where you get to enjoy as well as study. NBH is a bit more isolated and you have your own peace of mind.
How does it feel to be in MAMC, Delhi?
The first year at your dream medical college can be very overwhelming and dreamy during the initial days. It will take you a little time to actually digest the fact that you have made it to MAMC. However, you should bear in mind the fact that you will be exposed to tough challenges and life may not seem as dreamy as you expected. You might even question your own existence and your dream to become a doctor. You must learn to undertake the stress and give your 100%. You need to achieve your goal now that you are in your dream college!
How is MD Medicine from AIIMS Jodhpur compared to other well-known institutes of India like VMMC Sardarjung, MAMC, KEM, and BJMC (Ahmedabad)?
AIIMS Jodhpur launched its PG course in various clinical branches in 2017 and has been providing excellent training and research opportunities ever since then. The patient load is also very satisfying and enough clinical exposure is offered.
However, AIIMS Jodhpur MD Medicine is specifically not well established so you need to check before coming here.
- Their GM department has only two assistant professors right now. The department is filled with senior residents mostly.
- The patient load in this department is very low in comparison to other well-established colleges like MAMC, VMMC, etc.
- AIIMS Jodhpur lacks the necessary assistance provided by the seniors
Ultimately it’s best to go for MAMC or VMMC compared to AIIMS Jodhpur if you are specifically targeting MD Medicine.
How is the Life of a MBBS student at MAMC Delhi?
MAMC Delhi is one of the most prestigious medical colleges of India and offers an excellent campus life to its MBBS students. Although the authorities will claim its a rigging free college, the reality is you will have to entertain the seniors to a certain extent. There have been instances when juniors have been asked to dance and sing for their seniors. Some might be banned from the library for being a nerd. However, never let your guard down, and always maintain your dignity.
The food is very cheap and tasty. The Nescafe Point serves a variety of snacks and coffees and many other delicacies can be bought from the Departmental Canteen. The college has no caste-based discrimination and there is excellent harmony between the peers. You won't face any major language issues here irrespective of whichever part of India you hail from.
The schedule isn't very hectic and students are given a 15-day break for Christmas and New Year. There are enough holidays to plan trips or visit home occasionally.
Why have you not opted for MAMC KGMC UCMS VMMC through the NEET instead opted for AIIMS Bhopal?
People opt for AIIMS Bhopal over medical colleges like MAMC, KGMC, UCMS, and VMMC because of their personal preferences and have no grudge against these colleges. The two main reasons why someone would choose AIIMS are because of the AIIMS tag and their readiness to work hard for PG entrance exams.
Academically, all the aforementioned colleges are at the same level even in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and opportunities. Honestly, an MBBS from most medical colleges is similar with little changes. Most colleges provide a similar experience and it’s in PG that the college actually matters. Someone has rightly said that many average colleges produce great doctors while some great colleges produce average doctors. So yes, the institute matters but not to the extent that your career is hampered in any way.
Always remember Mediocre colleges can produce excellent doctors and excellent colleges can produce mediocre doctors. It’s the decision you make and the skills you acquire that make you a successful doctor and not the institute.
Which college do you think is better, VMMC or MAMC? Also, I am confused about PGIMS Rohtak since it's my hometown.
In my opinion, the aforementioned institutes can be ranked in the following manner
MAMC>VMMC>PGIMS
Here are some strong reasons for this order
- Both MAMC and VMMC are top-ranked colleges with better infrastructure, academics, research opportunities, facilities, and a huge patient load.
- Delhi offers a better city life than Rohtak and also better opportunities.
- The college inculcates a sense of responsibility in the students as they have to do all basic chores on their own from washing clothes to fulfilling other document formalities.
- The MAMC tag and the excellent internal PG quota at VMMC are other major perks of choosing these institutes.
- Delhi has more medical colleges and you can attend all their fests too. It will be an exhilarating experience.
So choose wisely after weighing the pros and cons of both colleges.
