The placement statistics of 2019 suggest 89% of students from the civil engineering department got placed. Even though it’s the popular belief that there is not much scope for civil engineering in India and most students prepare for non-core placement from the very first year of their engineering degree. If we talk about statistics and past records, IIT Bhubaneshwar is a better choice.
IIT’s have the best faculties in the country. The level of research work and the flexibility IITs provide is exceptional. The companies that come for placement purposes are also distinguished from other colleges. The infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneshwar is developed and the campus is very well sustained for overall development.
Since Electrical Engineering has been from the start of IIT BBS, placements are great there. The placements for the early years were not that great but for the last 2 years, the situation is incrementing. In 2019 the placement rate for EE at IIT Bhubaneswar was 86%. The highest package went around 39 LPA by Adobe.
Placements at BITs Hyderabad have been relatively lower with median CTC around 5 LPA and the highest CTC around 14 LPA. Around 94% of the students got placed from the campus last year.
Both the brands are prominent ones, but the level of exposure and opportunities that you will get at IIT Bhubaneshwar may overpower that of BITS Hyderabad.
IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the most promising new IITs. One advantage of new IITs over older ones is that the number of students is lower, so teachers will know you by name and it will feel like a close-knit family. You'll be surprised to learn that newer IITs have better placement statistics because they are more focused on placement, as opposed to older IITs, which are more focused on research to improve their world rank. Dual degree programs are also an option because at the end of five years, you will have two degrees, and if you go abroad for a second master's degree, you will have completed some of the courses in your fifth year.
So you'll complete your master's degree in less than 18 months. So you'll have an extra degree for only six months more. So dual degree programs are fantastic. For God's sake, it's an IIT. Take a chance.
The overall branch change policy is the same in other IITs. However, there is a 10% rule which should be followed. No branch should have more than 110% and less than 90% of its actual batch strength.
The students who want to change the branch should score more than 8.5 CGPA without any backlog at the end of the second semester. If in case, there is a tie or equal CGPA, then the student having a better JEE ADVANCED rank will be given the priority. Students of 4 years B.Tech are eligible for consideration for a change of branch to any engineering courses including 4-year B.Tech and 5-year dual degree. However, the students in dual degree programs can change to dual degree programs only. Any change in the branch is final.
