NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.
On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.
- The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs.
- The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.
- For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds.
- Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them.

How much is the fees of Thapar University for a 4 years BTech programme, including all hostel fees, etc.?
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), now known as Thapar University charges different fees for different courses. - The hostel accommodation is well furnished and maintained regularly.

Cons:
- ABES EC has a strict 75% attendance rule. Failing to maintain this can lead to detention.
- The institute calls parents if they don’t attend your class.
- The hostel curfew timing for girls is strict. You need to be inside the hostel premises at 6 pm during winter and 6:30 pm during summer.

There is no fixed ‘best option’ and it ultimately depends on your inclinations and career goals.
You can consider 2 things here
- If you want a happening college life and are ready to sacrifice on the branch, go for the top 3 IITs, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, or IIT Madras.
- If you are certain of a career in the IT sector and also want a decent college life, go for newer IITs like IIT BHU, IIT Indore, IIT Mandi, etc.
Among the newer IITs, your first preference should be IIT BHU CSE followed by IIT Indore and other tier-2 IITs. IIT BHU has a very extensive alumni pool and is well-established in comparison to other IITs.
