Should I pursue IT at PICT or CSE at IIIT-Pune (Chakan)?
I have a friend at IIIT Pune. I only heard good things about the institute from him. Here are some facts about IT at PICT and CSE at IIIT-Pune, which may help you to decide.
Teachers:
- All of the faculties of IIIT-Pune are Ph.D. holders from institutes like IIT KGP, NITs, and foreign universities.
- Most of the faculties of PICT are M.Tech or still pursuing their PhDs.
Crowd:
- Instead of going home during vacations, students attend Android and Web development workshops.
- Faculties encourage students to take up projects and internships from the first semester.
Degree:
- Students get B.Tech in IIIT-Pune as compared to a B.E. at PICT.
- IIIT-Pune's curriculum doesn't include subjects like Civil, Engineering Drawing, Mechanics, Mechanical, Chemistry which are of no use in the course of CSE.
Institute of National Importance:
- IIIT-Pune is like all the IITs, NITs, IIITs which is an Institute of National Importance( INI) which leads to a lot of Government funds and monetary support.
- Students who did their 12th from the MP board or others can receive a full tuition fee waiver for 4 years of their B. Tech since IIIT Pune is an INI.
Sports and Clubs:
- Any student can start a club of their own if they have a passion for something at IIIT-Pune.
- IIIT- Pune bagged 5 medals in IIT- BHU’s Annual Sports Fest Spardha and continues to receive honors in other sports events as well.
Attendance and Holidays:
- PICT has minimum attendance criteria of 75% and PICT imposes an 80% attendance.
- PICT has 9 days winter break and 15 days summer break, so if you are not a local then you will not get to see much of your family.
- At IIIT-Pune students get 1 month of Winter Break and about 2.5 months of Summer Break.
Exposure and Brand:
- IIIT-Pune students usually go for two industrial visits to Infosys and Tech Mahindra.
- IIIT is a brand as there are a total of 23 IIITs in India and are recognized throughout the country and overseas.
- IIIT-Pune also has inter-IIT sports and technical fests every year where all the IIITs across the country take part.
Students think that PICT is old so it’s better and yes it’s been around for 20 years since PICT’s inception and it has developed whereas IIIT-Pune is just 2 years old and has the potential for tremendous growth.
How will the new IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur be?
The ongoing process and overall development of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur are considered to be averagely graded, according to the present conditions of the institute. Some of my friends are pursuing their studies at IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur. I will try to give an insight below about the institutes, based on what I heard from them.
- According to placement reports of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur, the level of the institutes is close to NITs, if not inferior. As with NITs, they have low academic freedom, a decent undergraduate program with good placements, and almost no scope for research-based works.
- There are reports of IIIT Pune rejecting applications to recruit professors with Ph.D. from IIT Bombay or IISc, even without interviewing them. The reason stated for the rejection was the candidates did not have an engineering undergraduate degree, but a mathematics Hons. The institute did not consider excellent research works as important, even from places like IISc and IIT Bombay.
- On rejecting candidates with good profiles, the institute selects candidates as professors from Ph.D. in NITs, Nirma University, etc. IIIT Nagpur also has similar records of meaningless decisions.
Thus, there are several irregularities in IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur which states that the two institutes are on average condition at present times.
Will the New IIIT Pune be safe to join?
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Pune is still new to other IIITs and is less reputed than them.

You can ask IIIT Pune students about their experience and then can decide whether it would be a good choice for you or not. However, it is advisable to choose other reputable colleges that have strong alumni and good placement records. It has an ‘INI’ tag and after a few years maybe it comes to one of the top Engineering colleges.
Therefore, if you have not scored well in JEE then you can opt for IIIT Pune. As Pune is an IT hub, you can expect job opportunities thereafter completing your studies.
Which is better, IIIT Vadodara, IIIT Lucknow, IIIT Sri City, or IIIT Pune?
IIIT Sri City is the best option among these. It has a better placement record. Also, the resources and the facilities offered for research are the best at IIIT Sri City among these four institutes.
Over the last few years, the institute has maintained an impressive placement record. According to IIIT Sri City placement highlights of 2021, the average and highest CTC offered were INR 12.02 LPA and INR 43 LPA. Companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, L&T Infotech, etc. took part in the placement drive.
Which college should I prefer for CSE, VIT Vellore or IIIT Pune? Kindly consider factors other than placements too.
Among the above two options, IIIT Pune is the better choice, without doubt, considering several reasons such as fee structure, overcrowding, and the IIIT tag. One of my friends goes there, so I know a bit about the institute.

Key Highlights: (Winning Institute - IIIT Pune)
- There is overcrowding at VIT Vellore, with almost 2300 students enrolled at CSE only in several categories. There is huge competition in VIT due to the number of students sitting in placement altogether. On the other hand, IIIT Pune has even fewer than 100 students in CSE, which is realistic and sensible for students to compete with each other.
- In India, the tag of a government institute has its own value, which is a bitter truth in our country too. Along with that, the IIIT tag always has its own demand for placement in companies and higher opportunities.
- The fee for IIIT Pune is always lesser than that of VIT Vellore, irrespective of the type of hostel chosen at VIT.
There are students who have joined VIT, left the institute due to overcrowding, and went to some other institute. Considering all the above factors, IIIT Pune is a definite choice.
Which one should I prefer: COEP IT or IIIT Pune CSE?
You should prefer COEP IT. It is among the top engineering colleges in Pune. The institute offers better academics, faculties, and placements. Each year around 95% of students get placed in the IT branch. The recent highlights of COEP Pune placements show the average CTC for IT to be around INR 10-11 LPA. Barclays, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, etc. are some of the major recruiters for the IT branch.

Which is better for CSE among IIIT Pune, IIITDM Jabalpur, IIITM Gwalior and IIIT Chennai?
IIITDM Jabalpur is a premiere technical institute. It was established by the MoE in 2005. It is among the oldest and the most well established IIITs.
The CSE department of IIITDM Jabalpur is better in comparison to the other colleges mentioned by you. This is evident in the preference of most students, as they give priority to IIITDM for their CSE over other IIITs.
The placements of the CSE department have been quite good over the past few years. Moreover, IIITDM Jabalpur has a tie up with Japan, and top performers from each branch get a chance to visit the country during winter break.
Thus, I would recommend you choose IIITDM Jabalpur for your CSE.
Which is better: IIIT Pune (CS) or IIEST Shibpur (mechanical)?
IIEST Shibpur offers a rich legacy and technical expertise, which makes it way superior as an institute when compared with IIIT Pune. But you need to decide whether you are interested in Mechanical or CS. Placement-wise too, IIEST Shibpur Mechanical is at par with other good engineering colleges in India.
As for placements, IIEST Mechanical is a better choice. But if you are planning for a post graduation after B.Tech, CS is a better branch for you. You must secure a rank of 250 or less, and get into top IITs for your M.Tech CS. Doing so will be beneficial for your career, and you can expect job offers from top brands like Google and Directi after your M.Tech.
On the other hand, an M.Tech in core branches like Mechanical won’t be as beneficial for your career. IIEST will offer you top notch faculties, and make your journey toward an MS/Phd. much easier, if you are planning for these degrees.
Based on what your future goals are, you can choose either of these two colleges/branches. But as a fact, core CS jobs are much better paying than core Mechanical ones.
What should I choose between DTU/NSUT EE and IIIT Pune CS?
Pursuing CSE from IIIT Pune will be a better option between DTU/NSUT EE and IIIT Pune CS.
Most of the students who complete B.Tech from non-technical streams get jobs in the IT sector. So it is better that you choose the stream in which you want to make a career. If you want to make your career in the Tech field then CSE from IIIT Pune will be a good option provided you have not planned to pursue EE yet. You can also pursue B.Tech in EE as there are lots of opportunities in it.
DTU, NSUT, and IIIT Pune are good institutes and have good placement records. You will surely get to learn a lot in either of the institutes and have fun 4 years at university. But if you want to land into a good company with a good package then you have to work hard and gain skills. Here is a brief overview of the recent placement statistics for the institutes.

Which is a better option, IIITDM Jabalpur ECE or IIIT Pune CSE?
When choosing between NIT Pune and IIIT Jabalpur, there are a few things to consider based on your goals and priorities. Here are some points to keep in mind:
Placement:
- NIT Pune has a better placement record as compared to IIIT Jabalpur. If getting a job right after graduation is your primary concern, NIT Pune might be the better option.
Research opportunities:
- IIITDMJ is better in terms of research opportunities as compared to NIT Pune. If you are looking to pursue research or want to become a research scholar or research assistant, IIITDMJ could be a better option for you.
- IIITDMJ students have been able to publish research papers during their MTech courses.
Course options:
- IIIT Pune's Computer Science Engineering (CSE) course is better than IIITDMJ's ECE or CSE course.
- If you are planning to pursue a BTech degree, NIT Pune might be a better option for you.
Location:
- NIT Pune is located in the city and has better connectivity to metro cities via flights.
- IIITDMJ is located around 8 km away from Jabalpur city, and the connectivity of Jabalpur with metro cities through flights is not as good as Pune.
Considering these factors, you can decide which institute suits your requirements best. If you are looking for good placements, NIT Pune could be the better option. If you are interested in research and want to pursue an MTech course, IIITDMJ could be the better option.
