How is Pondicherry University for an MBA in tourism?

VS
Vivan Sridhar Posted On : September 29th, 2021
Master of Social Work Human Resource Specialisation,Pondicherry University (2017)

The Department of Tourism Studies of the Pondicherry University offers an MBA in Tourism & Travel Management. It is one of the rarest courses in India and the course here is actually pretty good.

  • You will have a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) where you can choose certain “Soft core” subjects offered by the department apart from the “Hard core” subjects which are compulsory for the course completion.
  • There are mid semester, end semester as well as internal assessment exams.
  • A 40:60 ratio weightage is given to the mid-semester and internal assessment exam to the end semester exam.
  • You need to achieve at least 40% in the end semester and 50% on aggregate to pass the subject.
  • The department organizes two tours each year; a 5-7 day, Eco-tour and a 10-15 days national tour.
  • Apart from that there are various field visits during your coursework as well.
  • World Tourism Day is also celebrated with much flamboyance each year.

Overall I would say that it is a very good course with lots of practical knowledge and experience. The faculty are also knowledgeable and offer very good insights into the industry. The exposure and experience you will get here is really very nice.

How are the campus placements of pondicherry university?

NR
Nikhil Ray Posted On : September 27th, 2021
Studied Physics at Pondicherry University (2012)

One of my cousins graduated from Pondicherry University. According to him, it is a decent place to study and live but the rest depends on your hard work.

Nowadays the student's hard work counts more than what college he is studying. The physics department has a placement cell and it is active at Pondicherry University.

Institutes like TIME and other companies need subject experts in physics. They recruit from the university.

Campus recruitments at Pondicherry University are less. It depends upon the department. Different departments have different scenarios. Some departments have good placements while some don't.

What is the placement package for an MBA in Pondicherry University?

PS
Pratika Sharma Posted On : September 28th, 2021
MBA (HRM) at Pondicherry University (PU)

I have a few friends from Pondicherry University, and according to them, for Insurance Management, the average salary package offered is around INR 5 LPA. The placement percentage is 94%.

Here is a brief overview of the current placement statistics of Pondicherry University.

Highest Salary Package INR 10.20 LPA
Average Salary Package INR 3-4 LPA
Top Recruiting Companies  TCS, Syntel, CTS, Accenture, Infosys, Wipro, HSBC, ICICI

But for MBA tourism, the package is relatively lower than anticipated. However, the placement percentage touches the 100% mark in contrast to other branches. For other MBA branches, the salary package is considerably low as well, amounting to around INR 5 LPA or INR 6 LPA.

How hard is it to get admission into Pondicherry University for an MSc in statistics?

RV

M.Sc Statistics, Pondicherry University (2018)

Actually, it is quite the contrary. It is quite easy to convert to Pondicherry University even if you are a little serious about your studies.

  • The university conducts its own entrance test every year. You need to clear the test to get admission here.
  • For the test, you need to be moderately prepared (depending on the level of the student) and practice the last 4-5 years of the question paper. The level is easy
  • Most people aim for the IITs, IISc, and ISI Kolkata before joining this university if they do not get a chance there. You can get an idea of the level of the university.

The course is good with excellent faculty and a good study environment, more freedom and no academic or social pressures. So it would be a wise decision to join here if you do not get the top colleges.

How good is Pondicherry University for MSc in Mathematics?

M.Sc in Mathematics at Pondicherry University (PU) (2021)

I have a few friends from the Mathematics department of Pondicherry University. Here is what they had to say about the department.

The Mathematics block is known as the Ramanujan School of Mathematical Sciences.

The school aims to impart quality academics to students in different sections of Mathematics and Statistics, through different post-graduate study programs in Mathematics and Statistics.

  • These two departments of the school have an extremely qualified faculty, alongside a well-established infrastructure with the inclusion of decent laboratories. The institute also has excellent computing facilities.
  • The research activity that’s being carried out as of now is in various emerging disciplines.
  • Students, in addition, also secure placements in several MNCs.

This is everything that you should be aware of about Pondicherry University. Hope this helps answer your question.

How is Pondicherry University for an MCA and how are the placements?

NS
Nilesha Samanta Posted On : September 27th, 2021
Studied Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering at Pondicherry University (2018)

One of my friends graduated from Pondicherry University. Here are some things you need to know about it before making a decision.

  • Pondicherry University is good in terms of infrastructure and facilities.
  • It's a central University and has a very good campus.
  • The faculties are moderate.
  • The placement scenario is not very good at Pondicherry University.
  • Students here are mostly dependent on off-campus placements.

My friend got a good rank (read AIR-1) in 2014 but he ended up pursuing it in NIT Durgapur. So think wisely.

In general Pondicherry University is a good university. But not fit to meet the requirements of the industry. Better join some other university. In the long run, PU is not a good option. Placements are not up to the mark.

M.Sc. Physics,Pondicherry University (2017)

One of my cousins graduated from Pondicherry University and here are some things I got to know about it.

  • The Department of Physics at Pondicherry University is one of the leading Physics Departments among Indian Universities.
  • It offers Integrated M.Sc. (5 yr.), M.Sc. (2 yr.), and Ph.D. in Physics.
  • The admission to these courses is the National level entrance test conducted by Pondicherry University.
  • You can get admission to Ph.D. if you crack the entrance even if you have not qualified JRF. But qualifying JRF will give you real research opportunities with no funding problems.
  • The M.Sc. Physics courses are very useful for those who want to go for a future research career.
  • It consists of rigorous theoretical as well as experimental course work with a specialization (which can be chosen among Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Laser and Electronics) and a project work (only for those having high grades).

The course is bringing the best out of the students here. A good number of students qualify for national level exams like NET, GATE, JEST as well as getting very good job opportunities at domestic and multinational companies.

What should I choose between Pondicherry University, JNU, DU for MA philosophy? Why? Which is more economical?

MLISC from University of Delhi (2021)

You should choose JNU for MA in Philosophy. It offers better learning opportunities. JNU is also the best economical choice. MA Philosophy from JNU costs only INR 654.

JNU has wonderful History, Aesthetics, and Sociology department. This is an advantage if you want your Philosophy course to be thoroughly interdisciplinary. The residential university life of JNU is a unique learning experience in itself.

Since the last few years, both MBA in Tourism and MBA in Banking Technology has witnessed great placements. These two branches, among many others, have seen the highest number of placements, throughout the university.

How is M.Tech in Pondicherry university?

PS
Piya Sharma Posted On : September 28th, 2021
M.Tech Green Energy Technology,Pondicherry University (2017)

M.Tech, as a degree, is a very good choice at Pondicherry University. However, it also depends upon the department you are choosing. Some of the programs such as Nano Science, Data Science, Computer Science, and Architecture are quite great at the institute.

In many cases, students of the university often claim that the placement percentage, unlike other institutes, is lower than usual. Some also say that the peer group at the institute is not that good.

Contrary to what they say, it is not quite true. One of my friends is a recent alumnus of Pondicherry University and is now settled in a top firm. So, if you have the required skills, you can easily get job offers.

There are many students engaged in government and privately funded projects. For academics, Pondicherry University is quite good. However, you will have to look for jobs on your own.
