Lucknow University Receives INR 2 Crore for Research Projects

New Delhi: The Lucknow University (LU) has received INR 2.10 crore from the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India under the State University Research Excellence (SURE) scheme for innovative research in the fields of medicines, electronics and other areas of societal benefits, according to an official.

Faculty members from various departments have received seven projects (Each) worth INR 30 lakhs under the programme. The Department of Chemistry, the Department of Zoology, and the Department of Statistics have each received a maximum of four projects each.

A Chemistry department employee Neeraj Kumar Mishra will work on late-stage C-H functionalization of therapeutic candidates, which will enable medicinal chemists to avoid laborious late-stage drug analogue syntheses. 

The chemistry department employee Sunil Kumar Rai has received funding to develop a cocktail of medications for the treatment of cancer.

The chemistry department's employees Pratibha Bansal and Seema Mishra will work on producing extremely effective electrochemical energy storage devices. 

The Department of Zoology employees Ashutosh Ranjan and Aakansha Sharma have been given funding to study migratory bird behaviour. 

Working with ranked set sampling processes, Prof. Shashi Bhushan from the statistics department will develop strong inferential procedures.

The vice chancellor of LU, Prof. Alok Kunar Rai, and the dean of academic and student welfare, Prof. Poonam Tandon, expressed warm wishes to all the awardees. They said that the focus of the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 for higher education is on research and innovation. 

The university's research climate will improve as a result of this financing, and master's and PhD candidates will have greater learning possibilities.
