New Delhi: You might still receive an admissions offer despite your appallingly poor 0.37 percentile LSAT (Law School Admission Test) India score. A candidate who was in contact with an LSAT 2023 test taker in June 2023 and could only respond to one question. No fewer than five law schools decided that they qualified for LLB admittance based on it.
The candidate received an offer letter from each of the following schools: BML Munjal University, Vinayaka Mission's Law School, GD Goenka School of Law, Asian Law College, and Alliance University, Bengaluru, despite having a nearly zero percentile score. This calls into doubt the applicability of the LSAT India scores as well as the requirements for other test-based admissions.
Another candidate who took the LSAT for admission in 2023 scored in the 22nd percentile. They received offers from Jindal Global Law School, a division of OP Jindal Global University, and IILM University in addition to a couple of the schools mentioned above.
LSAT India entrance exam
Around 15 private law schools and university departments use the results of the LSAT India, which is presented twice a year in January and June, for admission to three-year and five-year LLB degrees. Pearson VUE, a provider of computer-based exams, now handles the administration.
Candidates took the home-proctored LSAT India 2023 and had 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete 92 questions. The LSAT evaluates reading comprehension, logical reasoning, and analytical reasoning, although admission seems to be attainable even if the applicant has none of these skills. Taxes are not included in the test charge of INR 3,999.
The majority of applicants aim for the most challenging law entrance exam, the CLAT, which is required for admission to the best public national law universities. According to a government agency, even in 2018 there were more than 50,000 applicants who took the CLAT. Scores from the CLAT are accepted by a large number of other universities as part of their admission requirements. According to the number of test takers, the Symbiosis Law Aptitude Test (SLAT) and the NLU Delhi administered AILET are in order.
More than 15,000 applicants for the BA LLB programme took the AILET in 2023. The LSAT is far less demanding in comparison.
The LSAT administration organization's official news releases include the following list of candidates over the years.
Year | January/ March | May/ June |
---|---|---|
2023 | NA | NA |
2022 | 1,689 | NA |
2021 | 7,600 | 7,600 |
2020 | 5,700 | 5,700 |
Law school admissions and LSAT India 2023
The candidates who attempted the LSAT entrance exam in January 2023 and another who took it in June 2023 both managed to receive a significant number of offers, including ones from universities that are highly ranked in worldwide rankings like the QS rankings, despite receiving truly dismal test results. Here are the candidates' ratings and the offer letters that each university sent to them.
LSAT India June 2023 Exam: 0.37 Percentile
A score close to the zero percentile would indicate an essentially equal likelihood of getting a seat (zero) in the case of truly competitive standardised entry tests. Unlike the LSAT India, though. Even with a 0.37 percentile score, the applicant received favourable responses from as many as five colleges; some extended invitations to apply, others placed them on a shortlist, others offered immediate admission, and one even threw in a scholarship.
The institutions and what they said in their letters are mentioned below.
BML Munjal University
“We are glad to extend a provisional offer of admission to the three-year Bachelor of Law degree (A Hero Group Initiative) at BML Munjal University, beginning in August 2023. Your LSAT score is used to determine this temporary offer of admission. Additionally, you are qualified for a 100% scholarship. The same will be given out based on the interview panel's suggestion.
Vinayaka Mission’s Law School
“Under the terms of an institutional mentorship arrangement, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and OP Jindal Global University (OPJGU), an IOE, mentor the VMLS, Chennai. We are happy to inform you that VMLS, Chennai, has provisionally selected you for admission to their 3-year Integrated LL.B (Hons.) degree based on your LSAT India result.
GD Goenka School of Law
“This important email aims to address the majority of your questions about the LLB admissions process. The GD Goenka School of Law's LLB programme has 10 seats left, and admissions are concluding soon. The only basis for entry will be the principle of first come, first served”.
Asian Law College
The Asian Law College counsellors, posing as representatives of the school, called the applicant to encourage them to enrol and offer direct admission, stating that they accept LSAT scores.
Alliance University, Bengaluru
In a similar manner, counsellors calling on behalf of Alliance University, Bangalore asked the student to submit an application based on their LSAT results.
LSAT India January 2023 exam: 22 percentile
The candidate in question did better on the test, scoring in the 22 percentile. They were also given admission to IILM University and JGLS in addition to some of the aforementioned universities. The second is especially astonishing given how highly regarded academically OP Jindal Global University is. It was designated an Institute of Eminence by the University Grants Commission, and the QS World Rankings for 2023 rated it the top private university in India.
The offer letters from these colleges stated the following.
Jindal Global Law School (OP Jindal Global University)
“We are pleased to offer you admission to the BA Legal Studies degree programme at JGLS of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) based on your LSAT India January 2023 scores. Your entry and seat will be instantly reserved, and an online fee receipt will be generated. Since it will be stated on your fee receipt, you do not need to ask for confirmation of your admittance”.
IILM University
“Congratulations for your performance on the LSAT 2023. We cordially invite you to participate in the IILM University, Gurugram, 5-Year Integrated BA LLB (H), BBA LLB (H), and 1-Year LLM Programme admissions process”.
School of Law, Modi University
“We invite you to enrol in this esteemed university's law school, which has earned an A+ rating from NAAC. Please enter or register as soon as you can because there are only a limited number of seats available”. Although Modi University is a cooperating institution, the LSAT is not mentioned in the communication.
