IIT BHU, Kanpur, Guwahati, Dhanbad, Jodhpur, and Goa Appoint New Directors; See Details Here

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has recently appointed new directors to six IITs. New directors have been appointed for IIT BHU, IIT Kanpur, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Goa. The new directors for these IITs are Dr. Amit Patra, Manindra Agrawal, Sukumar Mishra, Avinash Agrawal, Dr. Devendra Jalihal, and Dr. Dhirendra S. Katti, respectively. 

Who are the New IIT Directors in 2024?

The new director for IIT BHU, Dr. Amit Patra, has also served as the Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur and is an alumna of the same institute. He received his BTech, MTech, and PhD degrees from IIT Kharagpur and served as a faculty member there from 1987 onwards.

Manindra Agrawal is the director of IIT Kanpur. He was previously teaching at IIT Kanpur’s CSE Department. He received a Padma Shri in 2013 and also was a Humboldt Fellow at the University of Ulm, Germany. 

The director of IIT Dhanbad is now Sukumar Mishra. Mishra was the associate dean of R&D at IIT Delhi and has also taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the institute. IIT Jodhpur’s newly-appointed director, Avinash Agarwal, taught at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kanpur before his current position.

The IIT Guwahati director is Dr. Devendra Jalihal. He was a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras. Dr. Dhirendra S. Katti is the director hired for IIT Goa. He also taught at IIT Kanpur in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering. He was an assistant professor at Drexel University and the University of Virginia before he joined IIT Kanpur.
