IIM Indore and the University of Liverpool have teamed up for a Sports Business Management Program. The program will help students understand and establish successful sports businesses on an international level.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-I) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Liverpool, UK to spearhead a Global Sports Business Management Program. The MoU was signed on March 18, 2024, by the Director of IIM Indore Prof. Himanshu Rai, and the Dean of the University of Liverpool School of Management Prof. Julia Balogun.

The program aims to deliver a holistic learning experience for those interested in sports business management. It will cover international issues in sports business management, teach students to evaluate stakeholders and governments and help them understand sports brand marketing and the sports business environment

The program will cover various aspects of running a successful sports business, including event management, sponsorship, leadership, etc. The program will combine interactive learning sessions with practical exercises to ensure hands-on learning. 

Talking about the importance of understanding the burgeoning field of sports business management, Prof. Rai said, “Sports have emerged as a significant sector driving economic growth worldwide. With initiatives like the Fit India Movement, people of all ages are including sports in their fitness regime. We have launched this programme with the aim to equip aspiring sports business professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in this rapidly evolving industry.” 

Talking further about the prudence of the collaboration with Liverpool University, Prof. Rai also said, “Sports unite everyone irrespective of their nation, and thus, through our collaboration, we aim to nurture a new generation of sports business leaders who will drive innovation and growth in the global sports market.

Prof. Julia Balogun also spoke at the signing event. “The programme builds on the expertise of faculty within both IIM Indore and the University of Liverpool Management School’s Centre for Sports Business. It will be of great benefit to those in, or aspiring to, careers in sports business”, she said.
