The revamped National Curriculum Framework for Schools, based on the NEP 2020, outlines its plans to revamp the school syllabus and detailed exam structures, aligning with the NEP guidelines to groom Indian students as global citizens.

New Delhi: The National Curriculum Framework for Schools, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has revealed plans to develop a revised school curriculum.
It further specified that the handling of assessments and examinations, in line with the NEP guidelines, will be intricately addressed within the NCF. This primary objective aims to prepare Indian students to become global citizens.
The Board intends to implement reforms in the CBSE Class X and XII board exams, scheduling each exam to occur twice annually starting from 2024. This modification, however, is voluntary for candidates. As per the new NCF, the decision to conduct board exams twice a year will help students to perform their best and achieve their desired results.
As per the new rule, the students can choose to sit for the exam once or twice, with the higher score considered for the final marks. The primary aim behind holding the CBSE Class 10 and CBSE Class 12 board exams twice is to alleviate undue stress and reduce the academic burden on students. These changes will take effect from the 2024-25 academic session.

Furthermore, the board is set to organize semester-based exams for classes IX to XII. Over the four-year span, a total of eight semester-based exams will be conducted. This structure will be extended to the subsequent classes. However, this will be implemented during the second phase of exam reforms.

The changes focus on making board examinations more competency-based instead of rote learning, thus making the board exams easier from 2024 onwards.
