The CBSE issued an advisory to 500 schools after identifying notable differences in theory and practical marks, prompting a review of internal assessment procedures for practical examinations.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued an advisory on June 6, 2024, after detecting significant differences between theory and practical marks in 500 affiliated schools in certain subjects for 50% or more students. The board directed schools to review the internal assessment procedures. The board detected these variations using artificial intelligence tools.
As per Himanshu Gupta, the CBSE Secretary, “This variance highlights a need for meticulous assessment during practical examinations in schools. Consequently, the Board has issued an advisory to such schools to review their internal assessment procedures. This advisory serves as a reminder to prioritise fairness and accuracy in assessing practical examinations, thereby enhancing the quality of education imparted in CBSE-affiliated institutions"
In recent years, there has been a notable surge in marks, particularly evident in the increased pass rates and the greater number of students achieving scores above 90% in their Class 10 and 12 board exams. This has resulted in heightened competition for college admissions.
Earlier, the CBSE released class 10th results & class 12th results on May 13, 2024. The pass percentage for the Class 10th examination has observed a 0.48% increase from the previous year, reaching 93.60%.
Similarly, pass percentage for Class 12th examination has exhibited a marginal rise of 0.65% resulting in a pass percentage of 87.98. Right now, the compartment examination application is ongoing for Class 10th & 12th. The CBSE compartment exam is scheduled for July 15, 2024, for both the examinations.
The CBSE board's recent announcement included a change to class size, allowing schools to have up to 45 students per section for mid-year admissions and repeating students. This adjustment aims to better support students who join mid-year or need to repeat a grade.
